WINTER SPORT

Hockey

Girls Hockey at Parklands College is growing

from strength to strength. After a two-month

break in the middle of the season, both Hockey

teams were very positive about the remaining

fixtures. The u/15 team had only lost one

match and the u/19 team was undefeated. Both

Hockey teams faced tougher opponents in the

second half of the season and won two out of

the four remaining mathes.

Both teams played some of the best hockey

of their season on Derby Day against Elkanah

House and although the results did not go

our way, the Parklands College girls were

able to show their character and belief in their

teammates and made Elkanah House work very

hard to score goals.

The coaches and managers are very

pleased with the commitment and passion that

the girls have shown throughout the season.

We have developed many skills and have

successfully reached our goals for this season.

Continued support from the parents has not

gone unnoticed and is appreciated. We believe

that Parklands hockey will continue to develop

steadily in the coming seasons.

Cross Country

The Cross Country League season ended

on a high note with four of our athletes making

it to the Northern Zone team and qualifying

for Western Province trials. Christine Greig,

Jade Bremner, Ntando Brümmer and Tara Pohl

should all be congratulated on their exceptional

commitment and can be very proud of their

achievement. We are extremely proud of Jade

Bremner who made the Western Province

Cross Country Team. These athletes put in

many additional training sessions, before

school, after school and quite a number of stair

and hill sessions at Table View beachfront.

We are now focussing our attention on trail

runs until the league season starts again.

Ntando keeps taking the first place in the Big

Bay Parkrun, whilst our Parklands girls took all

the first places in the Battle of Blaauwberg race.

We look forward to several fun races like these

next quarter.

Rugby

This year the Predators rugby programme

once again moved ahead in terms of growth

and our brand of rugby. Our First XV played

fantastically well against our neighbours on

Derby Day, convincingly winning the match

32-19. Another highlight of the season was a

55-0 win over Curro Durbanville.

Our U16 Vipers had a great run in the league

and only lost one game in 7. They ended up

being the only team to beat the eventual league

winners, Fairmont High, by 19-17. They will

be looking to stamp their authority in the U19

league next year, along with the Captain and

WP Academy player, Ian Kitwanga, to lead the

way.

Our U15 Wild dogs had a decent season

with 3 of their players, Dumiso Maqeda, Ebube

Anazodo and Damian Ewbank being selected

for their zonal U15 WP squad to train at the

High Performance Centre in Bellville.

Our U13 and U14s had a tough season, but

we believe they should be a competitive force

next year.

Netball

The netball season at Parklands College

started last quarter with us hosting our annual

U19A netball festival, with 7 visiting schools

attending. Our U19A team, the Pumas, ended in

4th place.

This year we had 6 teams entered in the Sea

B - league. We enjoyed a rewarding season,

thanks to the outstanding commitment from the

coaches, managers and most importantly the

players. We played weekly league matches and

whether we won or lost, the girls made us proud

every week. The Pumas ended their season

by competing in the San Souci U19A netball

tournament where they missed out on playing in

the final by losing only one match.

We have an South African star amongst us.

For the second year in a row, Jamie Turnbull

has been selected for the SA U17A Action

Netball team. We are also very proud to say

we have a few WP Action Netball players e.g.

Harley Moriarty, Mia Brown, Liezl Myburgh &

Jade Turnbull.

The season ended on a high note with

the U19A and U14A team beating our rivals

on Derby Day, after tight matches filled with

excitement and enthusiasm. The U14A team

qualified for the district finals for a second year

in a row, after remaining unbeaten throughout

their season. The past netball season was very

successful and we are looking forward to an

exciting 2017.

Soccer

Our U19 Girls had a great season and for the

first time in 4 years they beat a strong Elkanah

House team on Derby Day. Other highlights

were coming from 2-0 against St Cyprian’s to

win the match 3-2. Kristine Luke represented

the College in the Atlantic District team for her

age group, which is a great achievement. Our

U15A team also had some fantastic results,

beating local rivals Sinenjongo 4-2 and also had

two representatives in the U15 team - Athena

Papaioannou and Storm Elliott. The U15B girls

had a tough season, but came out on tops,

leaving the best for last, in beating Fairmont B

2-0 in their penultimate match of the year.

Our 1st team Boys Soccer went undefeated

the whole year and the Captain of the team

JC Conradie was selected for the Atlantic U19

Zonal team. Our U16 boys had a tough year,

but they continue to show good character and

determination. Lee Esterhuizen and Nicolas

Papavasilopoulos make the U16 Atlantic Zonal

squad. The U14A boys had a very good year,

winning 6 of their 9 games and with five boys

selected for the Atlantic district team. Our U14B

boys played with heart and showed great spirit

during a tough season in the league.

the new”
