From the Principal’s Office

Sylvia Steyn

The beautiful gardens at Sandown have

been announcing the onset of Spring the last

few weeks and with this comes the realisation

that the year is racing to an end. The Winter

Quarter is a long and busy one – a time in

which a lot of the planning for the following

year is done. However, there is much to

celebrate of the year behind us and we look

forward to welcoming many of our parents

to our campus for all the events taking place

during the first week of the Spring Quarter.

Our elegant Matrics started the quarter off

with a classy Matric Ball at the Mount Nelson

Hotel. The build-up to the annual Parklands-

Elkanah Derby started immediately after that.

19-20 August was a proud weekend for us as

hosts – everything ran smoothly and it was

clear that everyone thoroughly enjoyed all the

events.

The end of the Winter Sport season saw

many of our teams ending in a very strong

position and a number of individual players

being nominated for zonal and district sides.

Our commitment and investment in

developing Sport at Parklands College are

paying dividends. The Derby Day results

placed the cherry on the cake for many

matrics who played in the last matches of

their school careers. We have already started

with pre-season training for the Summer Sport

season and look forward to good results.

On the cultural side we have seen brilliant

results in the Music, Speech & Drama and Art

Eisteddfods and the learners studying the

Arts have enjoyed a variety of stimulating

outings. Parents could also attend a number

of concerts in the Minor Hall to see their

talented children perform. The Musical

Production for 2017 has been announced

–

Alice in Wonderland

. Already there is

great excitement about what is going to be

something completely different from anything

seen before at our school.

In this newsletter you can also read about

our successful Music Week, our interesting

Science Week and the activities around

August Social Awareness Month. Parklands

College truly offers something for everyone.

During the October holidays we have three

tours happening: a tour to the Kruger National

Park, a hike in the Cederberg Mountains and

a Water Polo tour to Port Elizabeth. We wish

our learners and educators safe travelling and

unforgettable experiences.

May this short break be refreshing for all

our learners and staff, but especially for our

Matrics, who have just completed their

Preliminary Examinations. We look forward to

the Spring Quarter.
