From the Principal’s Office
Chantel Lamb
As this quarter draws to a close, we reflect on exciting events that have
contributed positively to much fun and learning in our school…
At the start of this quarter, as part of their experience of learning about
various types of occupations, the Grade R’s were treated to a thrilling
adventure to Rosen Castle. Role-playing and exciting props afforded each
child the opportunity to experience a day in the life of a doctor, chef, banker
and a television crew member. Squeals of joy could be heard coming from
the bus, all the way back to school!
“Reach For Your Slipper Day” took place on Friday 5
th
August and it is
always a fun event as we eagerly await the arrival of our friends to see
their slippers. There is an unspoken expectation to see who has the most
amazing and funky slippers. Of course, the cutest of the lot are indeed
our little Crackerjacks! Proceeds were donated to Reach for a Dream
Foundation, for children fighting life-threatening illnesses. Thank you to all
the parents and children for joining in and supporting this worthy cause as
well as our other outreach projects this quarter.
Puppet World visited and the children enjoyed learning more about
the Olympics through an interactive puppet show. The show was a
wonderful opportunity to promote dramatic play, capture attention and
develop listening skills. In addition to this, we were all given a taste of the
atmosphere, excitement and competition that is part of the Olympic Games.
Special Person’s Day is always a much anticipated event and having
our “special people” join us and participate in our class for a short while,
means a great deal to the children. We love to see the interaction between
the children and their special people as it affords us an eye into a different
aspect of their lives. The connections and special relationships as role
players in their lives are very evident and wonderful to witness! Thank you
to those of you who spent the morning with us!
The Grade R’s loved the Aquarium “I live Smart” show, involving Beauty
and her friend, Geo. They visit the aquarium and meet the sea creatures.
Through this interactive puppet show, the four basic concepts of living
smart, saving water and electricity, as well as biodiversity are covered. As
young as they are, our children are aware of the challenges facing us and
are eager to play a positive role in recycling and saving wherever possible.
Thank you to the parents who attended the report feedback meetings
this quarter. We are very proud of what each child has learnt, and how
they have grown and progressed throughout the quarter. They are such
little people and it is important that we ensure that their learning and time
at school is a fun and meaningful experience for them. If you were unable
to attend these meetings, you are welcome to contact your child’s class
teacher at any time and make an appointment to discuss their progress.
We trust that you will have a good little rest and some quality family time
over the holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming your children back to
school on Tuesday 11
th
October 2016.
Grade R
Owl, Pooh Bear, Edward Bear and Rabbit’s House
Samantha Eagle, Justine de Wet, Adri-Anke Van Zyl and Tali Maltz
The Grade R learner’s have had an incredibly exciting quarter leading up
to the spring vacation. We have been entertained by puppet shows, hosted
special guests, designed wonderful models in Robotics, and have been
busy with amazing science experiments.
In Robotics we have learnt how to assemble wheels
and axels to create trucks, which can pull trailers.
Designing has been a key feature in our learning this
quarter and we have been thinking critically about the
creation of our projects. The learner’s have poured
out their hearts, immense creativity and skill into
completing iPad presentations as well as magnificent
works of art. Well done boys and girls!
Puppet World captivated the learner’s
attention with the theme of the Olympics.
The learners were transported to the
Olympic village with a host of songs and
puppetry with magnificent scenes. They
acted as cheerleaders with pompoms,
athletes competing in running
races, torch bearers, synchronized
swimmers and flag holders
representing various countries.
They learnt about the significance
and origin of the Olympics,
and most importantly about the
importance of camaraderie and
great sportsmanship.
Special Person’s Day was a great event for the learner’s and guests
alike. We welcomed parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, siblings
and friends to share in a day of song, rhyme and creativity. We are
grateful to all of our special people who could join us in sharing precious
moments with their little ones.
As the fourth quarter is approaching, we have begun to practise
for our forthcoming concert and Graduation. We are eagerly looking
forward to seeing all of our special guests at this event. Wishing you all
a safe and happy holiday.
Grade 00
Kanga, Roo and Christopher Robin’s House
Megan Fick, Carla Bailey and Kim Truebody
We have had a very busy quarter, which has included lovely theme
discussions and a special day of dressing up as bees and sportsmen for
Casual Day. Well done to all the parents and children for their wonderful
costume designs!
Puppet World treated us to a puppet show, which was all about
the Olympics. The children participated by waving different countries’
flags, as well as running races. The children also thoroughly enjoyed
our reptile theme and engaging with
the Aurasma videos on the iPad. We
had snakeskins on our theme tables
and some wonderful reptile books were
brought in. Thank you!
A definite highlight of the quarter was
Special Person’s Day. The little ones
were very excited to welcome their
special guests and create something
together. They also liked showing off
their garden and playing with their
special person.
The weather has improved with
wonderful Spring days. Much fun
has been experienced playing on the
jungle gyms and exploring the outdoors. We look
forward to many more sunny days together next quarter.
Grade 000
Honey Bee and Tigger’s House
Anine Jubelius and Dominique van der Westhuizen
This quarter was filled with
plenty of fun and exciting
happenings. We were treated to
an “Olympic” themed puppet show
from Puppet World! Pegasus, our
school’s mascot came to visit us
all the way from the Secondary
Faculty. The children loved talking
to him and hearing all about Derby
Day.
