Robotics
Pride was
running on an all
time high when
our Robotics
teams were the
recipients of two
Gold medals
and one Bronze
medal at the
South African
World Robot
Olympiad (WRO)
held at Tshwane
University
of
Technology on
Saturday,
10 September.
The display
of results was
a culmination
of months of
dedication and
perseverance.
Four
Elementary
teams and one
Open Category
Senior High
team received invitations to the national
competition after being placed amongst the top
20 in their respective categories country wide.
The competition in the Elementary Category
was tough as four teams at the end of two
competing rounds, earned the maximum score
of 100. Final placement came down to the
quickest times. Team Robodog (Liam Leask,
Noah Kemp, Graedon Hawthorn) won Gold and
were crowned South African Champions in this
category with the quickest time of 79 seconds
(1:19), which is an amazing achievement
especially since they were the only team who
achieved 100 points in both rounds. Team
Beastmode (Ioannis Papadakos and Luca
Wolvaardt) received Bronze, 7 seconds behind
the winner.
“Nothing else in all life is such a maker of joy
and cheer as the privilege of doing good.”
- James Russell Miller
It has indeed been
a privilege and a joy
serving in the EarlyAct
Club this quarter as
we have had a number
of successful drives.
Our continued Bread
Buddy Collection is
always well supported
and we cannot
forget to mention the
tremendous generosity
of each family on
Mandela Day when
we made sandwiches
for Dunoon Primary
School. Our hardworking friends at the SPCA
gratefully received the food we donated to
the precious animals that they care for. We
know that the care packages for the elderly will
bring great delight this year. We have already
received a bountiful donation of goodies such as
marshmallows, soaps, powders and soft sweets.
It has been a wonderful quarter of generosity
and we are yet again so thankful to each and
every one of our parents and children who have
given from their hearts.
A CULTURAL ADVENTURE…
Public Speaking
From Violence in Movies to The
Impact of Homework on Learners, the
Senior Preparatory Public Speaking
Championships provided the audience
with thought provoking topics.
The learners proved their place
in the competition through their
powerful persuasive techniques and
charismatic deliveries. The first place
winners in the respective grades were
Maapi Molomo, Micaela Ince and
Sandhya Naidoo.
All the participants are congratulated
on an entertaining evening.

The Grade
Fours certainly
got colourful
this quarter,
as they
undoubtedly
helped the
school enter
into the
spirit of Spring, with their beautiful
blossoming flowers. Our jazzy
cat faces inspired by Laurel Burch
were also a hit, as the use of one’s
imagination was a high priority to say
the least. In another corner of the Art
Department, radiance was the name
of the game as Grade Five learners
explored the concept of emphasis
using bright chameleons as their
subject matter. As the wheel turns to
the top of the school, our Grade Sixes
ended off our colourful trend with
their take on amazing mandalas. We
look forward to many more colourful
creations adorning the Senior
Preparatory walls in the final quarter
of the year.
A SPORTING ADVENTURE…
The Winter Quarter brought proud
and successful sporting moments and
performances from our Preparatory
teams as sport continues to grow and
reach great heights.
Parklands girls enjoyed a tough, but
rewarding netball quarter. Our teams
despite being entered into a higher
league this season, achieved results
of which they can be truly proud.
They participated in a number of
festivals and impressed parents and
spectators with their increasing skill
and commitment. We look forward to
a sports tour to Johannesburg in 2017
where our Grade Fours and Fives will
be participating in the St Stithian’s
Easter Festival.
Rugby at Parklands has reached
a new level and our boys enjoyed
the opportunity to participate in two
rugby outings during most weeks of
sport
