The Dance Department has had yet another
successful and action packed year. This dynamic
department includes all dancers ranging from
Christopher Robin right up to Grade 12.We
welcomed on board Belinda Mesecke in the
Pre-Primary Faculty and Sam Cox returned to
join Alida Tromp and myself, Sylvie Stander, in
the Junior, Senior and Secondary Faculties. It is
always a pleasure and privilege to work alongside
supportive and highly knowledgeable colleagues.
Our 2012 ISTD exam results that we received
in February were outstanding with 6 Merits and
59 Distinctions.The examiner, Cathi Conroy-Jones,
who resides in England, published an article in the
April-June 2013 ISTD Dance magazine regarding
the examination session. This was her first visit to
South Africa and she said the following,“ One of
the most memorable examination experiences was
at the amazing Parklands College, a private school
with the most-up-to-date facilities.”
We had 116 dancers entered in the Cape Town
Eisteddfod. Our results were meritorious and we
are most pleased and proud of our Modern, Ballet
and Tap groups as well as the numerous individual
solo sections that were won by Parklands dancers.
The annual Dance Extravaganza was held on 10
May, and was enjoyed by all of the 170 dancers
ranging from Grades 1 - 12. Included in the
event was Jillian Jooste’s Grade 12 choreography,
which forms part of theWestern Cape dance
curriculum, and was one of the many highlights
of this spectacular evening. The Extravaganza is a
wonderful platform that allows the
dancers to showcase their own work
and develop their creativity skills.
In the third quarter, 84 dancers
were entered for RAD Ballet exams,
and the ISTDTap and Modern
exams were held in November.
Congratulations are in order to all
of the dancers who have achieved
excellent results, as well as for our
Medal Tests in December.
We look forward to continue
instilling the love for dance in our budding dancers.
May we have an adventurous 2014!
