The U/16
netball girls are truly talented. Our
squad has improved immensely and
both teams have grown closer as a
result. Both teams have won all their matches so far this quarter
and we are extremely proud. We all have great potential and will
endeavour to keep up the good work!
Francesca Phillips (U16A Captain)
The
U/16
team really has come a long way together and their
enthusiasm to play grows with every practice. The sportsmanship
that they show is truly remarkable and their passion for Netball
is evident and shows in every match. On the courts the girls are
team players who continuously encourage each other and this is
really amazing to watch from the sidelines. The girls really can be
proud of the progress they have made in this past season.
Alison King
U/14
The under 14 A and B netball teams this year included
many new learners, to netball and to the College – all of whom
improved drastically throughout the season. The players were
extremely consistent in their attendance of practices and soon
became accustomed to being put through their paces with fitness
and skills drills, facing these challenges with positive attitudes,
team spirit and a good dose of humour. The players grew both
individually and as a team displaying increasing strength of
character and sportsmanship as the season progressed.
Coached by Miss Bianca Malan and Miss Lindsay Durell, the
under 14 teams always held their own on the court despite facing
strong teams from prominent netball schools such as Atlantis,
Curro Durbanville, and Parrow, just to name a few.The squad is
very proud of a successful season and it is safe to say that the
future of Parklands netball is most definitely in good hands.
RUN /WALK
Elmarie Meyer
Our “walkers” have stepped up to the challenge this year by
embarking on more running than walking ventures. The Summer
months have seen them getting up at the crack of dawn to run
the streets of Parklands at 6:30, with additional fitness training
in the afternoons. With the change of the seasons, not even cold
and rainy weather could interfere with their training programme.
Wednesday afternoons were marked with stair-training in the
school building, as well as hill-training across the rugby field banks
on sunnier days.
In March, our runners competed in the Bloubergstrand Dutch
Reformed church’s fun run of 8 kms, with August seeing many of
our students joining the Blisters for Bread walk in Sea Point. We
are hoping to add more events to our calender next year.
HOCKEY
Fred Davis
This year has seen a huge improvement in the quality of the hockey at
Parklands College. This growth is exciting and bodes well for the future. The
mid-year league promotion has not slowed our girls’ performances, as they
continue on their unbeaten streak.
The Sport’s Tour was an eye opener. Being their first experience playing on
Astroturf, the team has realized just how high a level of hockey can be played.
The tour was enjoyed by all the participants as is highlighted by the tour report
from captain Danielle Pazda:
“On 9 July the hockey touring team departed for Port Elizabeth. Seeing that
it is the first time hockey went on tour, none of us knew what it would be like!
It was an amazing experience; we met new people and the hockey girls became
closer as friends as well as a team.
The commitment put into our games was excellent and everyone played
their best!We learnt many new skills along the way, improving our team to
become stronger as one.We improved immensely from match 1 to match 5.
The team thoroughly enjoyed the tour. The majority of us wish to go back.
There were many laughs and memorable experiences that we will never forget.”
I would like to extend a big thank you to our stalwart coach, Giles Buchanan,
who has put genuine effort into the furthering of hockey at Parklands
and to the parents who, without fail, support their daughters through lifts,
encouragement and by standing next to cold, wet hockey fields in midwinter!
I am excited about the prospect of having two teams competing in the
relevantWestern Province leagues next year: a junior U/14 team and a senior
U/19 team. This is a positive time for hockey at Parklands and we look forward
to the coming seasons.

NETBALL
First team Netball
Being part of the Parklands College Under 19 squad is like being part of a
family. We have become so close as friends and how we play is a result of the
relationships we have built. The Netball squad is one of the most successful
squads in the school; our passion, drive and dedication are what push us to
the finals every year!
Being part of this team for the past four years has been a great pleasure
and an unforgettable experience. I would like to thank Estelle Smal, our
amazing coach; without her our team would never be where it is today, as
well as to Mrs Pienaar, our manager who has stayed by our side every step
of the way.We couldn’t be more grateful for everything you both have done
for us. My team will always hold a special place in my heart.Thank you to
all the players for making this such a special group of girls! Our Team, Our
Squad, Our Coach, Netball!
Ellie Clews, First Team Captain
