In March, bags of Easter eggs were packed by the Grade
Three learners and these were distributed to old age homes
and disadvantaged children.
Sweet treats were piled to the rafters, and were pack-
aged and presented to the residents of
Huis Zonnekus
on
14 June. A group of our talented musicians entertained the
elderly with their well prepared repertoires. The smiles of
delight on the residents’ faces of Huis Zonnekus in response
to a visit by our learners brought the immense pleasure of
selfless giving to light. They were enamoured with the musi-
cal prowess of our little ones and gratefully accepted the
packages of sweet treats.
We also collected pet food and blankets for our four-
legged friends at the
SPCA
. Barks of gratitude were heard
in the kennels as the pet food and blankets were distributed
at Grassy Park.
Mandela Day
was a treat, not only for our learners as
they made sandwiches during their sixty-seven minutes of
service to others, but especially for those who enjoyed the
tasty snacks and healthy fruit at
Ysterplaat Primary
. This
proved to be such a rewarding initiative and an eye opener
as to the needs of those in our nearby community, that we
decided to partner with this worthy institution and support
it on a more regular basis. In the latter half of the year we
donated a host of non-perishable goods to provide hearty
meals for these young children.
We took part in a charity drive to support the underprivi-
leged by donating a small amount for the privilege of wearing
our comfy warm slippers to school. The proceeds thereof
were given to the
Reach for a Dream Foundation
. Habi-
tat for Humanity continues to benefit from the proceeds of
our ongoing recycling initiatives.
It’s never too early to start our popular
Santa Shoebox
programme
. Gifts started to trickle in as early as July!
This worthy cause has always been very well supported by
our empathetic families. These gifts are sure to bring many
smiles of gratitude and warmth to those who would other-
wise not have a special treat at Christmas time.
