JUNIOR PREPARATORY
In the Junior Preparatory, we have been
exploring puppetry along with story telling
during drama lessons. Children have actively
and creatively engaged with characters from a
performance perspective to an audience member.
Learners have made stick puppets, sock puppets
and even looked at creating shadow puppets,
which added to their creative experience of drama.
SENIOR PREPARATORY
In the Senior Preparatory, we have been
incorporating the use of the children’s iPads whilst
devising and creating dramatisations. Learners
created movie trailers,T.V adverts, short films,
and even radio dramas using specific apps on the
iPads. The integration between technology and the
creative performing arts proved to be stimulating,
fun and exciting!
CO-CURRICULAR DRAMA
The co-curricular drama learners had the
exciting opportunity of showcasing their dramatic
talents at this year’s annual drama evening entitled
‘Activate’.The learners worked very hard in
order to gain confidence in their characters and
they all learnt to work as a team to make their
play a success. The Grade Four group performed
Roald Dahl’s ‘Cinderella’, the Grade Five group
performed ‘The Mayor’s Pimped Out Clothes’, a
modern version of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’,
and the Grade Six group performed ‘The Show
Must Go On’. It was inspiring to observe the way
in which each student had their own unique way
of interpreting their specific character. They are to
be commended for being brave and confident to
showcase their work in front of an audience with
such passion and enthusiasm!

Grade 12 Drama Learners at
Milnerton Playhouse
On Friday, 7 June the Grade 12
Dramatic Arts learners were invited to
present their Theme Programme at the
Milnerton Playhouse.  It consisted of several
monologues, poems, dramatic extracts and
a movement item, all linked thematically.
They chose to highlight the concept of
“Doing the right thing” and performed very
well - the audience was full of compliments
and praise afterwards.  It is a great
platform to showcase the talent we have at
Parklands College and I was proud of each
and every one of them!

House Plays
What a truly phenomenal House Play
evening it was this year! Themes and plots
ranged from an intriguing twist on a work
of Shakespeare to a celebrity survivor, an
unexpected body-swap and even a sinister
game show horror! It was agreed by one
and all that the standard of House Plays
did not dwindle this year, but instead pole-
vaulted over everyone’s expectations!
Oxford
opened the evening with a
phenomenal array of intriguing scenery and
a truly hysterical feat of acting by Giovanni
Asaro playing Adam, a typically lethargic and
obnoxious schoolboy. His comedic timing,
facial expressions and line delivery set the
scene for a wonderfully humorous world
of woe for both him and Alexa Sowade,
playing his school nemesis, Anna. Directed
by LiyabonaVutula, Sasha Zauchenberger
and Justine Alves, this well-presented play
started the night off through the medium of
side-splitting humour!
Harvard
c
ame next with another
satirical sensation, whereby a number of
renowned celebrities had to take part in a
popular reality television series. A myriad
of marvelous characters, including Lady
Gaga, Hulk, President Zuma, a drag queen
and even a couple of Tokoloshes thrown
together, caused well-orchestrated mayhem!
