This year has seen the U19 Boys Soccer team take on
a whole new field of young players, who are ready and
committed to build a top first team. This season brought
many tough games, followed by a tour from which the boys
drew much knowledge about the game. The boys can be proud
of their efforts this year as they all played with passion and
sportsmanship in every match that came their way. Well done,
Boys!
U/16
The Parklands College under 16 team this year
shows much promise remaining unbeaten in the first half of
the season against teams such as Herzlia (1-1),TableView
(3-1) and (3-0), CBC (4-0) and Fairmont (4-1). Stalwarts of
the team are Nikola Tavares,Alèco Savvas,Valentin Mintchev,
Manatsa Hairwadzi (captain), Marco Arnoldi, Khanya Dilima
and keeper Yannick Lamers. The team has been fortunate in
having an excellent coach, ex-Parklands College student and
professional player, Darren O’ Healy.
U/14
The under 14 Soccer season is one that will surely
be remembered from a point of view of high and lows. The
squad consisted of fifteen enthusiastic boys who, from day
one, committed themselves to a team that played with passion
and flair. The regular squad members played each game with a
degree of excitement and this was evident in good wins against,
for example, Edgemead High School, 5 -1. Thanks must go to
the coach, Jason Pienaar, who brought a level of professionalism
and charisma to the practice sessions - the boys enjoyed his
style of coaching. We look forward to the 2014 season as this
soccer squad can only grow form strength to strength.
Regular team members
included:
Calvin, Bradley,Will,
Jonathan, Stefan, Brandon,Aron, Jared,
Moongang, Nicholas, Devon,Andy,Alex,
Audrey,Tieg, Gianluka,
Skye,Austin, Keanu and Khanya.

The Under 13 team had a very
challenging season. Having to overcome
injuries and illnesses each week, the team
managed to pull together to play some
very attractive football at times.While
the team managed to score in every game they played, the
final score was not always in their favour. However, they did
develop the ability to play in different positions and learned a
lot about using the open space on the field to their advantage.
When they were positive, they were able to mount some
very skillful attacks on the opposition’s defense and score
some very classy goals.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

The U/19 Soccer Girls of 2013 are a vibrant group of
motivated and dedicated young players. From the second
that their first match started in the Autumn Quarter,
players improved their soccer skills, whether it has
been with that crucial first touch, their defensive tactics
or improving on shooting skills. Every player is a key
component of the team, and has contributed to every
match.
The beauty of a team sport is that friendships are formed between
people, regardless of their cultures or social groups. The soccer girls embraced
this ideal and certainly forged friendships based on a shared love of the game.
The Parklands College Sports Tour was a vital element of this team’s unity. We
had the privilege to play against teams from higher leagues, containing players with
years of experience. The girls played their hearts out and won three out of their
five games. The games that we lost, we accepted as learning opportunities – to
improve as individual players, as well as a team.
As Henry Ford said,“Coming together is a beginning. Keeping together is a
process.Working together is success.” The Parklands College Soccer Girls have
achieved success.
