RUGBY
DarinViljoen, Head of Rugby
Junior Preparatory
This year the Junior
Preparatory rugby boys showed a clear grasp of the game
of rugby. The boys learned new skills through hard work
at practice sessions, and it was evident in the matches
that they played. We have seen our U8 teams do very
well, beating the more fancied rugby schools like Jan
Van Riebeeck and Tygerhof quite convincingly. These
Baby Predators have been growing in numbers and we
look forward to observing their quality of play next
season.
We have a small group of boys that play in the U9
age group. The caption “band of brothers” comes to
mind, as these young boys support one another and
constantly look to achieve. They narrowly lost to Jan
Van Riebeeck in a pulsating match. The team showed
their guts and determination against Tygerhof by
winning the match with a hard fought victory. We are
confident that these rugby players will make an impact
when they join the Senior Preparatory in 2014.

Senior Preparatory
Although we compete in a very tough
league with schools that have been playing this game for many years, by the second
game of the season the U11 rugby team had already showed clear signs of improvement
with great scrums and lineouts. They continued to persevere and tackle their
opposition with increasing skill and teamwork throughout the season.
The U13s have worked very hard on their fitness and it has clearly shown in their
matches. They have played their hearts out in every game, and with the assistance of
their coaches in practice sessions, have displayed tenacity and enthusiasm. The highlight
of the year was when a selected group of U13s took part in theWestern Province
trials this year for the first time. It was a fantastic experience, with TaneWahl and
Marco Tavares qualifying for the coastal team to play at Bishops. We are proud of these
committed rugby boys, and we look forward to watching this sporting code grow from
strength to strength.
