Where do I start? How do I describe
one of the most amazing years of my
schooling career? A year that has been the
most inspirational and eye opening grade
so far. Filled with amazing opportunities and
some weird ones too. I can now say I have
dissected a fish.Yes, the smell was horrible
but the opportunity to feel, move around,
look inside a fish was one of the funniest and
craziest moments in Grade 7; besides for all
the weird personal jokes between my best
friends and myself. There have been days
where we will laugh until we end up on the
floor. It has been an amazing year and I guess
I should start at the beginning …
When I first came to the high school, I
was apprehensive and excited all at the same
time. I didn’t know anyone very well besides
my friends from Grade Seven. The first week
in Secondary School was full of fun and
exciting. We learnt where to find everything
in the school and met all our funky teachers.
The work is a lot of fun and can make
you think out of the box to answer the
questions. The teachers are great and have
wonderful explanations and are very helpful.
The tutorials are a great idea!
The sport is awesome with a lot of variety,
which satisfies everyone (even the un-sporty
people). Everything you can think of: cricket,
soccer, water polo, softball, equestrian and
of course the best sport of all, hockey! I
was lucky enough to go on the Sports Tour
to the Eastern Cape and it was an amazing
experience! It was filled of laughter, fun and
lots of sport matches.
There are so many cultural activities to
fill your day with; not just dancing, music, art
and drama, but also public speaking, debating,
sound engineering and photoshop.
I was lucky to be voted to become a Class
Representative in the first term of this year.
It was a learning experience and helped me
get to know learners in the other grades
and make new friends.
The Grade Seven Camp was epic! The
camp is that time of the year when we all
join up, teachers and students, to go to a
far- away place and learn more about what
team work is. But we also go crazy. We have
the time of our lives with our friends as it is
a 3- day sleep over! Most of us don’t even go
to sleep we just stay up and talk.
One of the highlights of the camp was the
nappy slide! We put our lifejackets on upside
down (put your legs through the holes
where the arms go) then you jump into the
river and let the current carry you along!
We all wanted to do it for the whole day!
The most exciting part of the year is
camp.
This year has been great so far and I can’t
wait for the tomorrow to come so I can go
to school and see my friends and teachers!
