COURSE STRUCTURE

Course details

Daily Activities

A morning of interacting with children at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary of varying ages leading and assisting with activities in a relaxed happy learning environment. Followed by an afternoon of academic lectures. 

 

Asessments

Formative and summative assessments for all Unit Standards will be conducted and collated by Parklands College Further Education.  Students will be required to complete a Portfolio of Evidence, work integrated learning (WIL) and the Final Summative Assessment (FSA) is written at our Campus in Table View, Cape Town. 

This higher certificate aims to provide the following learning outcomes for the students:

  1. Mediate active learning in an integrated and holistic learning programme.
  1. Facilitate learning and development of children with barriers to learning and other special needs, including those coping with abuse and violence, within an inclusive anti-bias approach.
  1. Promote the safety and healthy development of each child.
  1. Work with colleagues, families and community systems to develop each child’s potential as fully as possible.
  1. Manage a well-planned and organised learning programme to meet the needs of individual children within the framework of the national school curriculum (where appropriate).
  1. Select and use appropriate methods and procedures for assessing children’s progress and reporting on this to parents.
  1. Promote the development of high quality ECD programmes and services.

 

Knowledge Component:

Three Core Unit Standards:
  • Develop and manage the ECD learning programme, 24 credits
  • Mediate active learning in ECD programmes, 36 credits
  • Promote healthy development in ECD programmes, 12 credits
Two Fundamental Unit Standards:
  • Apply workplace communication skills, 10 credits
  • Present information in a public setting, 5 credits
Three Elective Unit Standards:
  • Facilitate a Life Skills learning programme in the Reception year, 15 credits
    • Facilitate a Literacy learning programme in the Reception year, 15 credits
    • Facilitate a Numeracy learning programme in the Reception year, 15 credits
