Senior Preparatory

Grade 4 – 6

Welcome to The Senior Preparatory

Children are driven by a natural curiosity to explore the world around them. The Senior Preparatory Faculty, provides a technology integrated environment for learners enabling them to engage in hands-on learning experiences where a growth mindset is nurtured. Through our Growing Minds Philosophy, we nurture creativity, collaboration, critical thinking, effective communication and a sense of responsibility in all areas of learning.

Learners engage in real-world problem solving and are afforded the opportunity to share their growth with the wider community through Eisteddfods, Competitions, Expositions and Showcase events. Our aim is to foster confident, independent learners who are eager to contribute positively to society.

It is critical that a solid foundation, particularly in numeracy and literacy, is in place for a successful transition into the Secondary Faculty. The Senior Preparatory collaborates with the Secondary Faculty to ensure that there is close liaison between the two faculties.

Learning Journey

Academics

The early years of children’s formal education is the foundation upon which future academic and life skills are built. In the Junior Preparatory a natural curiosity and love of learning blossom within a classroom that is supportive, dynamic, and enquiry based.

We believe that the subject Life Skills supports and strengthens the teaching of mathematics and language, giving learners practical topics in which they can practise their reading, writing, and numeracy skills. Life Skills equips learners for meaningful and successful learning in a rapidly changing society. It includes key beginning concepts drawn from history, geography, natural sciences and technology, as well as the arts. In addition, its focus on developing perceptual skills such as auditory and visual perception, hand-eye coordination, and sensory memory, provides learners with the foundation for all future learning and development.

Every learner has an innate wish to explore their world and the Junior Preparatory provides a platform for such experiential learning. Learners’ ideas and expressions are valued, and the ultimate goal of producing confident, independent learners is achieved within a technology-rich, creative and intellectually stimulating environment.

The Senior Preparatory provides the important bridge between the Junior Preparatory and the Secondary Faculty, and educators work in close liaison in order to ensure a seamless transition from Grade Six to Grade Seven for each learner. Within a nurturing environment we continue to promote a love for learning and focus on the core skills which are necessary for success. While following the national curriculum, educators provide opportunities for learners to explore topics in depth, creating a space for innovation and independent learning.
