Cape Town, South Africa – September 24, 2021 – Parklands College, a Top 20 private school, is pleased to announce that we have been recognised yet again as an Apple Distinguished School for 2021–2024 for providing an innovative, technology infused place of learning and teaching, where we inspire our learners to explore their imaginations and creativity, find their passions and purpose and build their own futures.
Apple Distinguished Schools are internationally recognised centres of innovation, leadership, and educational excellence. They use Apple technology to connect learners to the world, fuel creativity, deepen collaboration, and make learning personal.
“Our shared vision is to foster a sense of purpose and ignite a passion for life-long learning within our Parklands family. We encourage learners to effectively communicate ideas, work collaboratively, identify and solve challenges using creative and critical thinking, all while taking action to positively impact our global community. This is our “Growing Minds” philosophy – the heartbeat to our expression of education.” Paul Mayers, Associate Principal of Innovation.
The selection of Parklands College as an Apple Distinguished School highlights our continued success in creating an innovative and authentic learning environment that engages learners and provides opportunities for them to share their voice and understanding. Our teachers are progressive thinkers who support our learners throughout their Parklands journey.
Project Based Learning allows for cross-curricular learning experiences that provide opportunities to engage with challenges in a safe space, emulate learning in the real world and allow for meaningful collaboration and communication with peers, educators and the community.
Coding and Robotics are integrated into our curriculum which facilitates creative problem solving opportunities. Proudly, our robotics teams have represented South Africa since 2015. Invention and prototyping are encouraged with 3D modeling apps, 3D printers and electronics in our Art, Design, Science and Engineering departments. Our experiential Film, Animation and Sound Engineering courses have resulted in four digital albums being released on iTunes by our media studio learners. Our application development offering in our coding incubator has resulted in eleven learner developed apps being released on the Apple App store. These opportunities, together with an integrated Apple ecosystem, allow our young entrepreneurs to personalise and build their own futures.
