We would like to extend our congratulations

to the Class of 2015 and all their educators who

have moulded them throughout their schooling

career through team effort and continuous

diligence, which culminated in this excellent set

of results.

The final results particularly speak to the

meticulous preparation the candidates have

received from their dedicated Gr 12 educators

who are passionate about their particular fields of

study and about ensuring that each learner is

afforded every opportunity to achieve his/her true

potential. All of the above would not have been

possible without the support of the parents and

their belief in the culture of striving for excellence

at Parklands College.

GRADE 7 ORIENTATION 2016

The Secondary Faculty was abuzz with activity

for the first three days of the first quarter, with

the new learners taking part in the Grade 7

Orientation Programme.

Every year, to assist our new grade 7s with the

hustle and bustle that is the Secondary Faculty,

the specially designed programme is a time for

learners to meet their new teachers, participate

in various fun, creative and exciting activities,

and to receive all the important information

pertinent to their survival in ‘Big School’. Coming

to a new school is always an exciting, yet

sometimes scary, event in one’s life, and our

programme was well-suited for the learners to

settle in and feel a bit more comfortable with the

last big jump of their school careers.

The grade 7 learners met with their homeroom

educators and grade heads first thing on

Wednesday morning where they were placed in

their homeroom classes and were able to see

whom they would be spending their lessons with.

As the days went on, all the grade 7 educator

were able to go in and introduce themselves to

the learners and take them through each lesson.

Many interesting lessons took place, including

Mr Peters’ QR code treasure hunt, which had

our learners racing around the various blocks

searching for an assortment of clues and riddles

that would take them on an adventure throughout

the Secondary Faculty. This allowed them to

find their way around the large campus and to

familiarise themselves with their surroundings.

By the end of the week, the grade 7s were

ready and raring to go, excited to begin lessons

and move to and from the various venues. This

time allowed for all of the learners to settle in

comfortably, to make friends and to ease into

life at Secondary School. We are really looking

forward to a great year with our brand new grade

7s and we are sure that they are too!

From the Principal’s Office

Sylvia Steyn

Welcome to new members of the Parklands

family and welcome back to old friends

and family. We trust that 2016 will be a

memorable year.

This year I celebrate 30 years in Education

and my 17th year at Parklands College. It

has been a most rewarding journey, but what

I find truly remarkable is that I have seen

more changes in the last 5 years than in the

25 before them. What a privilege it is to work

at a school where we are at the forefront of

innovation and creativity in our curriculum

delivery. You will read about some of our

ventures in this newsletter, but we also urge

you to visit our school on Open Day and to

read our weekly blog to remain informed and

amazed.

Our learners have just returned from their

annual grade camps, enjoyed by learners

and staff members alike. These camps at the

start of the year serve as the ideal opportunity

for new learners and staff to get to know

everyone and for all the members in each

grade to become a united group. Wonderful

memories were created, friendships forged

and strengthened, challenges faced and

conquered, and new experiences enjoyed.

Let us never underestimate the value

of a balanced, all-round education. Let us

encourage our learners to make use of the

myriad of opportunities afforded to them

at Parklands College. Let us celebrate

our achievements in academics, in sport

and culture, in technology and leadership

development and in our commitment to social

responsibility and outreach. We are proud

to send out into the world top class world

citizens who can and will make a difference.

We look forward to the events and activities

planned for the year and wish our learners

all the best in all their endeavours. Parents

are encouraged to keep us informed of their

children’s achievements outside of school as

well.

Let’s keep moving from good to great to

even greater.
