If I had 67 minutes to change theWorld…
By Daniel Richards
If I had only 67 minutes to change the world, I would
say to the world: Please be kind and peaceful. Let’s be
together. No murdering please, let’s love each other.
Please stop the wars. Let’s pray for Nelson Mandela
to stay alive and let’s all believe in God.
Our Creature:The Juicerous
By Micaela Ince and Keira van Straaten
Our creature is called the Juicerous. He is very very
big and lives in the deep dark jungle. He has delicate
hair which he uses to suck juice from special jungle
flowers. He also likes to eat the very rare Sparkit.
He has no legs, because he has special springs in his
body to help him jump from tree to tree. Baby Juicer-
ouses are called Jusee. The Juicerous is red and has
rainbow hair to match the rainforest jungle flowers.
He roars like a lion and is very shy. We are the only
people who have ever seen him.
Nelson Mandela By McKenna Nel
I want to be like Nelson Mandela because he is kind.
He always helps people. He is loving to people. He
has integrity and always looks after people. He is
responsible and always looks after things. He has a
heart of gold and he has respect for others. He has
consideration for others and is kind and loving. I like
Nelson Mandela.
Values By Zack Parker
It is very important to have values because if you don’t
you would not be kind, loving, compassionate, respect-
ful or responsible. I think I am very kind and loving
and I think that I have lots of humanity. I am kind
because I compliment people. I am loving because I
stop for people when they are hurt and I have human-
ity because I do the right thing. I want to be more
responsible and have more integrity. If I do something
wrong I will be responsible and go to the teachers. I
will show integrity by doing the right thing.
My Country South Africa By Kendra Stiles
I love our country because it has the best scenery in
the world and the beaches always have lots of beauti-
ful shells to collect. What I think makes South Africa
special is how many languages we speak and our
country is the only one that has a special mountain. I
love the plants and all the creatures and bugs. I love
my school, Parklands College. It is my favourite school
and we are all one family under the same sky.

A Letter to…
Dear Mrs Dean
I am so sorry that I was late for school. My dog made
a big mess in the kitchen and then we had to clean
the house. When we were about to leave we found a
bird in my house! Finally we got it out but my sister
Jess left all the lights on. We had to turn them all off
and by the time we were finished our door was stuck!
While we were in the car, the traffic was backed up
and we were stuck there for an hour. So that's why I
was late to school.
Yours sincerely
Graedon Hawthorn
Dear Bianca
I was really looking forward to dancing in the Eistedd-
fod and I really wanted to do well. I worked so hard
on it at home and at school. Alida let us practise
almost every day. She is a good dance teacher and
only wants us to do our best. I love her because she
gets us to dance beautifully. The day of the Eisteddfod
eventually arrived and I was so excited. I got up early
and after breakfast I practised a few times for my
mom. When it was time I got dressed and my mom
drove me all the way to Sea Point. It was a long trip
as they were working on the roads but Emma's mom
gave mom good directions and we got there early.
Sylvie and Alida did my hair and make-up. I looked
like a very pretty cat. I had a practice run with Tanna
Rose. When the practice was over I was so nervous. I
got on stage to do my cat solo but was so happy that
there were not so many people in the audience. When
I was doing my dance the judge was smiling at me all
the time. I liked that. She looked just like my granny.
When it was all done I was not nervous any more. We
stayed for the results and yippee: I got honours. Just
what I wanted! I was so happy. My mom gave me
a big kiss and bought me chips and a cool drink and
then we went home.

If I were an Ant for a Day… By Ethen Pillay
There was a boy named Jack. He was a nasty boy
because he never shared. One day he went in the gar-
den and saw an anthill. He hit it with a rock and he
went back inside the house. At night he went to bed
and then he shrunk into an ant. Some ants grabbed
him and took him. He had to be an ant for two days.
He had to go to ant school and it took him the whole
day. He had to fight dragonflies. He went to a class
ball. He saw that the other ants were kind. He learnt
his lesson and turned back into a boy. From then on
he always shared.

The Curse of the Mystery Box
By Katlego Ngobeni
I went to Blaauberg Beach to play with my friend,
Matthew. We were swimming in the ocean. Matthew
and I were very deep and I hit my head on something.
When I looked to see what it was, I saw a treasure
chest. It was brown and on the front, it said,‘Beware
the curse of Manalong.’
Matthew wanted to open it right away, so we got a
wrench and opened it. We saw a boat load of treas-
ure. I was very scared. Matthew touched the gold
and a big, bad pirate in his ship came out of it. He
had a skeleton for a body. He gave us each a sword.
Then I realised we were going to have to fight him. I
was very frightened and Matthew curled up into a
ball. Matthew got so scared that the sword slipped
out of his hand. The pirate tripped over it and he fell
onto the ground. I threw my sword up and it landed
in his head.
The sea took the boat and the pirate away. I still kept
the box as a souvenir, but I never touch the gold!
My Own Opinion
Boarding School by Laaiqah Gaffoor
I do not want to go to boarding school because I do
not want to eat stew, learn Latin, sleep on squeaky
beds or get bullied by Basher Beaumont. I don’t want
to get detention or get shoe polish in my hair!
Democracy by Zintle Kokolo
Yesterday, my teacher gave me a lesson about
democracy. Democracy is a very important thing to
have in life. Democracy means fairness and not about
our skin colour. Today we went to the high school and
rang a special bell. We call it the freedom bell. I feel
proud to be in a school that is trying to make a better
future for us.
