2013 has been yet another exciting
and busy year for our Grade Six learners.
The year began with our first camp to
Wortelgat where the learners learnt valuable
lessons and developed skills needed to
be a successful leader. An integral part of
the Grade Six year is that of the Personal
Development programme.The learners work
in their assigned groups to complete various
Apprentice tasks, such as the International
Food Fair and the Craft and Candy Day. The
Courageous Challenges are designed to
develop interpersonal skills and to achieve
personal goals. The challenges included an
outreach initiative, where they read stories
to and played Maths games with the Grade
Ones. For the social initiative, they showed
appreciation towards the support staff and the
final challenge was that of an environmental
initiative within the wider community.
This year was also an incredibly sad one
as the Grade Six learners mourned the loss
of one of their dear friends when Connor
Gerber passed away. He was a role model to
his peers and an integral member of the grade
as well as his Apprentice group. He will be
remembered for his positive outlook on life
and his love for his school and friends.
In September, the Grade Sixes embarked
on their final camp for the year to High Africa.
The learners thoroughly enjoyed themselves
and upheld the name of Parklands College.
To conclude this memorable year, the Grade
Sixes had their Farewell Evening at the Atlantic
Beach Clubhouse.This prestigious occasion
was enjoyed by all who attended. The Senior
Preparatory Faculty would like to wish each
of our Grade Sixes a successful transition into
the Secondary Faculty.
