This year our dedicated
animators focused on producing
short animations showcasing
their own original characters.
These budding young animators drew and rigged their own
characters, props and backgrounds.Thereafter, each animator
had the task of animating their character in a realistic fashion.
Some utilised props and backgrounds that each of their char-
acters could interact with.
The end results were stunning, to say the least, and I look
forward to seeing what they will produce next.

This year’s debating has been
truly phenomenal! Both the senior
and junior teams have worked very
hard on developing their skills so far. They have also successfully
applied their ability within Rotary League and made us proud.
The junior debating utility has welcomed a large number of
brand new learners and their enthusiasm to this largely unfamiliar
(and highly competitive) sport has been incredible! The main foci
for the first two quarters have been on the traditional structure of
debates themselves, as well as research and linguistic skills that are
greatly desired by Rotary adjudicators. The junior Rotary League
team has been largely comprised of: Robert Kucera, Kirsty Her-
man, Scott Moreau and Kyla Cranfield. More recently, there have
been some new additions to junior debating which has helped
replenish the ranks and build up the ever-popular discipline.
CBC St John’s, Bloubergrant,TableView and Edgemead faced our
blue-blooded junior team earlier in the year and were subsequent-
ly knocked out of the 2013 tournament. As if that wasn’t enough,
they then made it through to the quarter finals on 5 August, nar-
rowly beating Stellenberg.
The Senior Rotary Team for the first two quarters has included: Fezeka Mehlomakhulu (also the Debating Chairperson),
Emma Baines, Luke Fourie, LeslieWu, Nicol Steyn and Nina Matthews. They were undefeated in the first five rounds of the
league and after annihilating DSK in the octo-finals, went through to the quarter finals.
The highest achievement for both debating teams has been, undoubtedly, receiving an invitation to the Provincial Debating
Tournament. It was a three-day tournament hosted at Bishops from 9-11 August. This came as a result of achieving exception-
ally high scores in previous rounds in Rotary. Come on Parklands!

This year we had a
passionate and dedicated
crew of dancers, who
arrived ready to show
off and learn new dance
moves each week. Some of the dance styles that we
cover are: ‘Bboying’, Popping, Locking,Waving,‘Tut-
ting’ and Animating.
Each dance style requires intricate techniques and
athleticism.Tutorial videos provided much-needed
instruction, but the real lessons were learnt through
trial and error.
It was inspiring to watch the dancers improve
with each week, due to their dedicated training, and
I am very excited to welcome the group back in
2014.
Parklands College is an
extremely busy campus
and the Reporters had to
up their pace to report back, showcase and profile our talented
learners.A new year brought many new faces to the club, all with
great enthusiasm, dedication and desire to do as much as they can
to support and expand the club. The great drive of our new and old
reporters enabled us to take on each new project with renewed
vigour.
Once again, we have made full use of the digital displays around
the campus in order to promote and profile our sports teams and to showcase College
events. These included: weekly sports matches, the Dance Extravaganza, the One Act
Plays, House Plays, Music Evenings, the Public Speaking Championships, Debating, Forum
Discussions, the Matric Ball,Valedictory, Othello, Derby Day, Gatsby Day, Park Idols and
many more events. We also created several sports and leadership profiling videos and
promotional videos for various sports, clubs and societies.
The enthusiasm of our Junior Reporters, especially the Grade 7s, who focused on their
grade, delighted all with their exposé of their clubs and societies, how to prepare for
exams, and the run up to Derby Day from a Grade 7 perspective.
Our Shongololo girl, DerrynWilliams, had a wonderful experience on the Peace Train.
She left on the Southern Cross Northbound Adventure from Johannesburg, South Africa
