al Tests on 21 November 2016. The examiners
were Ms. Kim Scott from New Zealand, and Ms.
Belinda Mesecke, a local Capetonian. Across
the three faculties we were awarded: 3 Bronze,

INTERNATIONAL KIDS’ LIT QUIZ
Two Parklands teams participated in the Western
Cape heats of the international Lit Quiz compe-
tition. It has been 25 years since Wayne Mills
started this competition and the 22nd year that
he is hosting the competition in South Africa. He
says that when his children were growing up in
New Zealand, the only accolades were for rugby
players. As a lecturer of children’s literature, he
vowed to change things! Once again, he provid-
ed an exhilarating afternoon for the contestants
and they had great fun with categories as var-
ied as Romance and Caves. He challenged all
contestants to read 52 books before he returns
next year. Our Parklands 2 team, consisting of
Alexandra Draper, Teagan Gore, Aidan Richards
and Michael Larkin, won the Construction cate-
gory and came home with some book vouchers.
Happy shopping!

PREPARATORY
FACULTY
GRADES 1 - 6
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
From the Principal’s Office
Tanya Dean
Welcome to the Preparatory family. To
our new parents, whose child’s journey is
about to begin with us and to our existing
parents, we want to take this opportunity
to welcome you to our Faculty. We look
forward to sharing this educational ad-
venture with you.
On entry into the Preparatory campuses
one can only be impressed by the beau-
tiful buildings and facilities.
But even more heartwarming are the
smiles and happy faces of our learners
whose love and pride for their school is
evident. ‘Our blood runs blue’ is a certain
phrase, and our Grade One learners are
already wearing the crest with suitable
pomp and flair!
OUTREACH
Our outreach initiative for February is a collec-
tion of breakfast bars which will be donated to
Dunoon Primary. Please send all donations to
your child’s class teacher.
We also request that each learner make a sand-
wich and bring it to school on a Thursday as part
of our Bread Buddy drive for Dunoon Primary.
These sandwiches provide the learners with a
wholesome snack at lunch time.
