Gr 7 Bullying Workshop
As part of the new learner orientation, the Grade
7s took part in an Anti-bully workshop facilitated by
the school counsellor. The learners were divided into
teams, where various solution-focused ideas were
explored and presented to the larger group.
Anti Bully Campaign
Working in conjunction with the learner affairs
department, the IT prefects and the peer coun-
sellors, the College embarked on an Anti-bully
campaign over the summer and autumn quarters.
Visual stimulus such as catchy logos and slogans
were used to raise awareness about bullying. The
campaign ended off with an informative talk by
Grant Oosterwyk who addressed the entire school
about cyber bullying in particular.
Born to be you
Shannon from Born to be you presented an enlightening talk on eating
disorders to all the female learners in the Secondary Faculty. Having endured
a personal struggle with Bulimia Nervosa for 13 years Shannon has great
insight into the suffering associated with eating disorders. Her ability to
share so humbly how she was able to overcome this fatal disorder proved
to be a source of great inspiration to all, especially those affected by eating
disorders.
Ministry Against Drugs
On Monday 4 March, Justin Green from MAD
Ministry Against Drugs presented a sincere drug
awareness talk to all the learners here at the
Secondary faculty. Hearing how Justin himself
suffered through and ultimately overcame his
obstacle of drug addiction was a great motivation
for our learners to reconsider experimenting with
drugs.
Narcannon
On Friday 7 June, Robert Van Der Feyst from
Narcannon Cape Town delivered a fun and
educational workshop to the Grade 7 learners.
The workshop called “ The Truth about Drugs”
offered valuable information about addiction and
highlighted the fact that drugs are not “cool” and
will not make life better.
Personal Branding
Workshop by Tim Eburne
As part of the College’s commitment to prepare our learners for their fu-
ture career paths, all Grade 12s had the opportunity of attending a personal
branding workshop facilitated by Tim Eburne. The learners were given valu-
able info on how to manage, sustain and project their own personal brand
when going into the world of work or persuing tertiary studies.
Grade 11 outing
to Stellenbosch
University Open Day
On 2 August interested Grade
11 learners visited the University
of Stellenbosch’s Open Day, where
they had the opportunity to tour
the Neelsie Student Centre, meet
staff members, and attend infor-
mation sessions on the degrees
on offer by the different faculties.
This was a very beneficial experi-
ence for all learners who attended
as they were exposed to a variety
of options for further study and
provided with guidance on how to
make informed decisions about
their future careers.
Career Guidance Corner
The career guidance corner is always fully stocked with a variety of
up to date brochures, prospectus and other interesting information
from Universities and College’s around the world. There is also loads
of information about fun and educational gap year opportunities for
learners who wish to take a break before going to university.
Guest speakers
Another fundamental part of the College’s approach to career guid-
ance is to host guest speakers from well-known institutions around
the Peninsula. Some of the Universities/College’s that have visited
the Grade 12s this year are the University of Cape Town, University
of Stellenbosch, Cape Peninsula University of Technology, Varsity Col-
lege, Centre for Fine Art and Animation and the South African Chef’s
Academy.
Sessions with the counsellor
Learners seeking advice on career options or assistance with university ap-
plications are able to see the school counsellor for more personalised support.
Future Rocking Show
The Future rocking show is a Career Guidance expo, brought to us by the Three Ring Circus,
exclusively for Grade 12s. The show took place on the 11th of February during school hours in the
Curie hall. This was different to the Careers Expo as it was interactive with loads of music, prize
giveaways and some very entertaining MC’s. Bevan Norris was the lucky winner to walk away with
an exciting goodie bag filled with educational CDs, DVDs, books and vouchers.
