Quarter 3 Newsletter 2022

6 We celebrated Roald Dahl's Birthday during Readathon Week. The learners had great fun during the Literature quiz. Lots of collaboration and brainstorming were witnessed. Dot Day is always a happy day. It reminds learners to be courageous so that their innermost creative potential can be released. The outfits on Dot Day were colourful, creative and inspiring. Special Person’s Day was such a treat. How wonderful to acknowledge the special people in our lives and to treat them to a morning of entertainment! We have enjoyed all the adventures we have explored this Quarter and look forward to creating new memories with our learners in Quarter Four. GRADE FOUR If we had to use one word to describe the Grade Four learners this quarter, it would be “brave”: from standing in front of the English classroom and advertising their tasty new sweet, to standing on stage in front of large audiences singing and dancing to the songs from the Jungle Book, The Wizard of Oz and Beauty and the Beast! Our brave Grade Four learners started the quarter exploring the history of transportation and how we came to have the modern transport that we know today. They were thoroughly entertained by the various types of bicycles from the past and were in awe of how far we have come from the very first motorcar. In English we dived straight into our setwork book, Because of Winn Dixie. We learnt about how there are many different types of friendships and how we all make mistakes, but despite these we also all have many things we do that we can be proud of. Reading about the Littmus Lozenge inspired us to invent our own sweets, for which we created slogans, logos and advertisements. The Grade Fours bravely stood in front of the class and advertised their sweets with great enthusiasm. Our brave Grade Four learners weren’t the only ones dancing this quarter. In Mathematics we used Keynote to make 2D shapes dance in various patterns to form a tessellation. They then created a song in GarageBand for their tessellations to dance to and produced wonderful iMovies of their Dancing Tessellations. A lot of fun was had in Mathematics this quarter as we explored the school to find 2D shapes, measured various objects in and around the classroom and discovered the incredible world of Meritopia in Mathletics. Ahoy there! Did you know that it was ‘Speak like a Pirate Day’ on Monday, 19th September? We decided to be pirates for the whole week! We even had a treasure hunt and a pirate party. One quarter left to go and then we are off to even bigger adventures. What did you get up to this quarter? Love from The Grade Twos That ’ s one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind. - Neil Armstrong This quarter the Grade Three Learners embarked on a journey into space! Their mission was to find a new planet. The young astronauts took part in fitness training to prepare themselves for their voyage into space. They took photographs in their space suits using a NASA SELFIE APP and once they had discovered a new planet, they had to name it and create a prototype in Art. The learners then prepared an oral presentation using their excellent ICT Skills. They proved to be creative agents, purposeful collaborators and effective communicators. We ventured out on another expedition. This time it was to the Iziko Museum and Planetarium to watch Tycho to the Moon. Tycho is a courageous pup who travels in space. He taught us many fascinating facts about constellations, shooting stars, meteors and the phases of the moon. Over and out! There have been many exciting events this quarter. It was so heartwarming to see our learners donate books to a less fortunate school as part of our Nelson Mandela Day Celebrations. Language Week taught us acceptance and respect for different cultures and dialects. We were treated to wonderful singing and traditional isiXhosa dances in assembly. Spring happiness filled the air on 1 September! Beautiful flowers were made and learners were spotted enjoying the warmer weather. Some even had a spring in their step! GRADE THREE
