Quarter 3 Newsletter 2022
5 Seuss and Roahl Dahl. On Dot Day the learners came adorned in dots. International Dot Day was an opportunity to talk to our learners about their aspirations and to encourage them to value their own unique set of talents. Learners had to research occupations and then present an oral on the attributes or tools a person needs to do their job. We also had a wonderful outing to Rosen Castle where our learners could take on the role of a vet, banker, chef or teller, to name but a few, during role-playing. We headed to the end of the Quarter with Special Person’s Day which resulted in a wonderful show of dance, music, poetry and song by the learners. Wow, what a jam-packed quarter and here’s looking forward to more adventures in Quarter 4! Dear Friends and Family What a whirlwind of a term it has been! In our grade we were told that our animal sanctuaries that we made last quarter were short of water. We needed to put on our thinking caps and be Creative Agents to design a water catcher to solve this problem. We took a trip to Intaka Island, where we learnt how important water is for us and the environment. We went home and rummaged through our “rubbish” and collected anything that we thought would be good to use for building our own rain gauge. Back at school, we used our procedural writing skills and took photos to explain the steps that we used to make it, in Keynote. Boy, did we have to think! We got together with our friends and became Purposeful Collaborators. We had to research a natural disaster, design a poster and teach the rest of the class all about it. It was great eing the teacher for a little while! We learnt about two exciting new apps. One is called Numbers and we used it to digitally record the daily weather for two weeks. We had to be Critical Thinkers and predict what the weather would be like each day and look for any patterns. The second app is called iMovie. We had a masterclass to teach us some cool new tricks (I think even our teachers learnt something new). We used it for our orals. Some of us chose to be meteorologists, some water saving experts and others scientists doing experiments. It was wonderful to watch each other’s iMovie presentations on the ‘big screen’ in our classrooms. We also found some very funny pictures in the clouds when we were taking a closer look at them. We did a ‘rain cloud in a jar’ Science experiment to help us understand rainfall and the water cycle. A lovely lady from NSRI came to school to talk to us about water safety. We celebrated some very special days…Chocolate Day and Spring Day. For Spring Day, we made origami flowers and for Chocolate Day, we designed wrappers for a new kind of chocolate for Mr. Willy Wonka. PREPARATORY FACULTY GRADES 1 - 6 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Lee-ann Steynberg What an amazing way to end our quarter: WRO Competition, LitQuiz and dress-up, Indigenous games, Special Person’s Day and our production of “Between the Pages”. We need to congratulate our Grade 4 - 6 learners on their courage and determination to find their space on stage. Not every learner is comfortable as a performer, however, the learners supported each other, cheered each other on and ultimately worked as a team to perform their piece. Well done for embodying our Growing Minds! Thank you to their wonderful teachers for ensuring not only that hungry tummies were fed (reminded us of Pre-Primary concert hotdogs) but that everyone was dressed and ready to go on stage. Our Elves and Fairies as always ensured that our hall looked amazing, our sound was fabulous and everyone had a ticket. Our Biggest Thank You and Congratulations must go to our Culture department for ensuring that every child from Grade 1 - 6 was represented on stage through the cereal box books they designed. Thank you for all the rehearsals and backstage organising. Finally, Thank You to Mrs Buckle for her vision, planning, rehearsing and pulling it all together. A spectacular show that each and every Senior Prep learner loved being involved in! This quarter also saw an increase in outings and we had the opportunity to visit Intaka Island, Rosen Castle, the Planetarium and the Museum. GRADE ONE GRADE TWO The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you ’ ll go . - Dr. Seuss. This quarter we celebrated the printed storybook. Our Grade One’s loved their trips to the library to choose books on a weekly basis where they were exposed to all genres of books. We had an author, Kayley Diamond, come and read the Jellyfish Jiggle which taught the learners it is alright to be different. We took part in the LIT quiz where we saw just how much we have learned from so many authors like Dr
