Quarter 3 Newsletter 2022
10 CRACKERJACKS Erin Liggett and Ingrid Lubbe The Crackerjacks have had a fun-filled winter quarter. Despite the glorious rain and colder weather, we found ways to stay busy indoors, and when the sun came out, we were ready to explore our garden again. Our colour theme was a huge hit, and each day we focused on a specific colour and used it on our creative art table, drawing their attention to the many different colours in this beautiful world we live in. The most enjoyed theme across the Crackerjacks classes has been the ‘Transport’ theme. We discussed the modes of transport on land, water and air. The children delighted in moving as various transport and, of course, mimicking the sounds of the busses, cars and motorbikes. “The wheels on the bus”, “Row, row, row your boat”, and “Down by the station” have become firm favourites amongst the Crackerjacks. The enthusiasm displayed by the learners has been marvellous to observe. We are very proud of the beautiful Transportation artwork we created this quarter. We celebrated 1 September and the start of Spring with Crazy Sock, Top and Shades Day. The Caterpillars and Butterflies had the most adorable outfits to celebrate. The quarter has seemed to “zoom” by, and we are excited for an action- packed and warmer Spring quarter ahead. GRADE 000 Lauren Medcalf and Colette Jagles The Tiggers and Honey Bees have spent a wonderfully busy quarter enjoying some lovely sunny days after the colder months of Autumn and Winter. They have taken adventure walks on the big field, playing “Duck, duck, goose!” and spent time increasing their ball skills on the tennis courts. Our themes have been engaging and stimulating, and learning ranged from mini beasts and life cycles to transport. METAMORPHOSIS is one of the newly acquired words the little ones learnt during our life cycle theme; well done! The transport theme has been fantastic, and the Tiggers and Honey Bees have been enthralled! We have seen speed boats, racing cars and space rockets flying through the air during playtime; oh, what a joy to see their imaginations used! The boys and girls were happy to share their knowledge of road safety and traffic signs. Then, Robbie Robot visited the children for a fun, interactive show where they learnt the importance of road safety through song and dance. PRE-PRIMARY FACULTY GRADES 0000 - R . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Riette Pieterse The little ones have had a wonderful quarter, leading up to the spring holiday. We celebrated the start of spring with a Crazy Sock and Top day celebration. Each little one came to school, dressed in crazy socks and an equally crazy top! There were some colourful and wonderful creations. Exploration is a key element to learning and this quarter our little people have certainly been on many learning adventures. As we endeavour to grow and learn, we do so by exploring the world around us... be it leaves, the outdoors, birds and nests... and even the wonderful world of transportation and occupations. The Grade R classes visited the exciting Rosen Castle Activity Centre in Durbanville for their first school outing this quarter. The classes attended the outing on individual days and the children enjoyed exploring the various reality play areas. These included Checkers, Capitec Bank, Medi-Rite Pharmacy, a television studio and a kitchen corner. We once again had exciting shows in the Pre-Primary. Robbie the Robot taught the Grade 000’s the importance of road and pedestrian safety. Street signs, traffic lights and safety in a parking lot were taught through song, movement and role-play. While learning about life cycles, the Grade 00’s had an interactive show focussing on honey bees and their role in our planet. We enjoyed Special Person’s Day in September and were delighted that so many special people were able to join us for the morning. The morning was full of song, play and special activities, however, the most important part was spending time with our special person. This time together means a great deal to our visitors and especially to our little people. Thank you to the parents who attended the report feedback meetings this quarter. We are very proud of what each child has learnt, and how they have grown and progressed throughout the quarter. They are such little people and it is important that we ensure that their learning and time at school is a fun and meaningful experience for them. We truly aim to capture the unique interests of our children and see their faces alive with possibility, wonder and confidence. We are very busy preparing for our Concerts and Graduation and look forward to sharing these special occasions with our families next quarter. Enjoy the spring holiday! We look forward to welcoming our little people back to school for the last quarter of 2022, on Wednesday, 12 October.
