Quarter 3 Newsletter 2022
11 On the 1stof September, Christopher Robin Pre-Primary's children celebrated spring's arrival with Crazy sock and t-shirt day! That was such a fun day, and the children looked fantastic! But, of course, they were equally excited to see the teacher’s crazy socks too!! The Honey Bees and Tiggers invited a special person into their class to spend some time with us for Special Person’s Day. We delighted in decorating a lovely photo frame and making a yummy wrap together. A special day for all to enjoy! The last quarter day was celebrated with various traditional South African games played on the big field and eating delicious vetkoek and oh-so-yummy pancakes. We are excited to welcome the children back in the Spring Quarter to witness their ongoing development, which we are so proud of! GRADE 00 Lauren Cowing and Chanay de Klerk The Roos and Kangas have had an excellent jam-packed winter quarter! This quarter we learnt about the lifecycle of a frog, chicken, butterfly and bee. The Grade 00’s thoroughly enjoyed watching ‘The Honey Bees and their Hives’. The show was very informative, where the children could speak about what they had learnt in class and learn extra useful information and facts. They learned a dance, song and other interesting facts about the importance of Bees. A highlight is always the Cake Sales, but it is even better when our grade hosts it. The 00s brought in a variety of sweet and savoury treats, which were enjoyed by all. We were blown away by the number of parents that came to help, and some 00s were lucky enough even to have their grandparents attend cake sales and help them sell. Spring was welcomed with a ‘crazy shades, tops and hats’ theme. The children took the time to be creative and used various materials to create colourful, fun and exciting outfits! It has been wonderful to observe how the Kangas and Roos have developed holistically and how they embrace and enjoy every day of school. We wish you and your family a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to an exciting fourth and final quarter of the year! GRADE R Tali Maltz, Candice Kemp, Andrea Reynolds The Grade Rs have had a delightful, busy and happy quarter as we bounce into spring. We have been learning about; our senses, various modes of transport, occupations, and fruits. We have enjoyed exploring machines in Robotics and the concepts of cause and effect whilst building complicated mazes. It has been a tremendous, event-filled season, with shows and our first outing. We hosted Kayla Diamond, a phenomenal children’s book author who wrote “The Jellyfish jiggle” and “Little kite’s magic flight”. Kayla entertained our Grade Rs with her superb storytelling and dancing skills. We enjoyed exploring each sense in “the five senses show” hosted by the knowledgeable Anthea. The learners enjoyed exploring sweet and sour tastes, a variety of smooth, silky and rough textures, and looking through magnifying glasses and Kaleidoscopes. The arrival of spring always brings great discoveries about nature, and our learners have watched with amazement as weaver bird nests were being built in preparation for new chicks to hatch. It has been delightful to see white butterflies all aflutter as we play on our field. We celebrated the first of spring with our crazy socks, glasses and colourful t-shirt day. It was quite a sight, from spotty and floral socks to hand-drawn patterns on t-shirts and glasses ranging from nose and moustache combos to supersized neon pairs. September was greatly anticipated as it held our first school outing since 2019. The bus trip was a first for many, and our learners filled the travel time with songs, rhymes and riddles. The visit to Rosen Castle was well worth the wait. There we explored occupations by adopting a variety of roles in realistic settings, from managers, customers and cashiers at Checkers, vets and receptionists at the vet clinic, Chefs creating their own delicious treats, which we could take home, to weather forecasters in a TV studio, and bankers capturing fingerprints and making withdrawals at the ATM. It was wonderful listening to our learners retelling the highlights of this wonderful trip as their parents collected them after their exciting adventure. Special Person’s day is always a delightful event for the learners and special guests. We welcomed parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, older siblings and friends to share a morning of song, rhyme creativity and delicious wrap creations. The guests worked with our hosts to create beautiful treats, including decorating lovely picture frames. They were able to take home these special keepsakes. Thank you to each and every person who took time out of their busy schedules to make this event such a special time. We loved having you in our classes with us. We wish you all an enjoyable, relaxing and safe holiday.
