INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY REPORT
Richard Knaggs, Director of ICT
studios, Parklands Sandown Studios. We will be releasing our
first album on the iTunes store by the end of the year. This album
consists of various original and cover tracks created and engi-
neered by Parklands College learners. The sale of the album will
fund the recording of talent from local disadvantaged schools
who will be included on future albums. The vision for our studios
is for it to be a launch pad for young South African media and
music talents.
Mrs Haffejee, the Senior English Curriculum Adviser attended
our Unicorn Awards, our equivalent of the Oscars, and she
was extremely impressed by the quality, and more particularly
the profound content matter of our Grade 10 movies. One of
the judges, Deryck Broom, who was a former producer of Top
Billing, said that the quality of our movies was far beyond that of
film school students that he had seen. This is another wonderful
compliment.
Tiaan Lotter and Kevin Sherman have been selected to partici-
pate in the Google Teacher Academy in London on Wednesday
4 December 2014. This is a highly prestigious event and the
selection process is stringent. The Google Teacher Academy is
a free professional development experience designed to help
primary and secondary educators from around the globe get the
most from innovative technologies. It is an intensive, two-day
event during which participants get hands-on experience with
Google tools, learn about innovative instructional strategies,
receive resources to share with colleagues, and immerse them-
selves in a supportive community of educators making impact.
All of these successes could not have been
achieved without a brilliant team of in-
novative Educators and Principals. To
my iTeachers, ICT Integrators, Head
of Curriculum and Learning, Kevin
Sherman, and Head of ICT
Academic Integration, Lee-ann
Steynberg, your contributions
have made Parklands College
a 21st century school of interna-
tional class for which I congratu-
late and thank you. I would also
like to thank Digicape who have
played a crucial role in the success of our
Apple One2One project.
Finally, I would like to thank my awesome ICT
team. I am indeed fortunate to have Michael
Swart, Cavan Lang, Alex Wickham, Martin
Levitt, Neil Sternslow and Nizam Khan, who
ensure the smooth operation of the College’s
ICT infrastructure, as well as attending to the
needs of our staff and learners. However, it
is with great sadness that I say farewell and
thank you to Mr Michael Swart, my Enterprise
Architect, who will be joining his wife in the UK
for a few years of international experience and
travel. Michael has been an integral cog in
the wheels of this organisation for the past 15
years, and words cannot begin to describe the
gratitude we owe him for the legacy he is leav-
ing behind. Go well, Sir, you have served this
College with passion and endless commitment
and I salute you.
