Life
by nature is a work in progress,
ever changing and challenging the
inner most core of what we believe to be
important. Although the world continues to
change, the basic needs of children remain
the same. It is necessary for parents and
schools to reinforce this shared ambition,
which is to produce successful adults whose
values will ultimately underpin their actions.
The aim of education is to prepare young
people to be socially just and willing to
serve with dignity, respect and honour, whilst
remaining task orientated and centred.
Education is also a vital ingredient in
promoting a sense of identity, extending
values, bridging the cultural divide, promoting
understanding and tolerance between
different people and building social cohesion.
We need to continuously change education
in order to keep up with the rapid advances
in technology. In these turbulent times,
he who learns most… wins and in today’s
knowledge based world, education is the
only sustainable foundation for progress and
prosperity.
Creativity and innovation are central to
achieving excellence in education. Learners,
educators and parents must be creative,
innovative and entrepreneurial to attain
the highest possible standards. The quality
of education received at Parklands College
is testament to the dedication of our
educators and the support they receive from
their Principals and management, who are
committed to doing the best they can every
day.
Learning takes predominance over teaching
where resident knowledge has to give way to
evolving wisdom, and as a 21
st
century school,
we strive to teach less and learn more.
Today’s learners are acquiring knowledge
differently, however, this knowledge needs
to be channelled under the guidance of
enthusiastic and dedicated teachers, who
are led by resourceful and compassionate
Principals who in turn are supported by a
very high calibre of staff. We continue to
promote new competencies whilst remaining
focused on core skills which include critical
and creative thinking, teamwork, social and
life skills, together with the ability to adapt
and continue learning all through life in a
changing environment thereby creating more
opportunities for excellence.
I can confidently say that we have
positively touched the lives of thousands of
children and continue to do so as we build
opportunities for each learner to create a
successful present whilst working towards
a brilliant future. I would like to extend my
grateful thanks to our Principals for their
loyalty and leadership, and to each and every
member of staff for their commitment to
a rapidly evolving education system: their
willingness to continue learning in order to
meet the needs of our learners is invaluable.
It is said that teachers hold the key to
learning. You can have a school without
books, desks, pens and whiteboards, but
you can’t have a school without teachers. It
is as simple as that. So we warmly salute
our dedicated and talented educators for
their contribution towards the outstanding
teaching and learning that takes place here
and to our Board for their commitment to
our vision and for their ongoing support of
Parklands College.
I would like to congratulate those learners
who joined us in Pre-Primary and Grade 1,
at the start of their education, it has been a
pleasure to share this time with you -

To our Matric class of 2013 – Be yourself,
have the courage to follow what you
believe to be right, make the most of your
abilities, take your part where you have
a contribution to make and give back to
society as much as you take from it. Go
forward and enjoy the challenges that await
you. We are proud of you and wish you all
good fortune for the future. Remember,
success is forged in the furnace of inspiration
and a yearning passion for achievement.
