2 PRESIDENT’S AWARD Alexandra is enrolled and has begun the 3rd and final tier of the internationally recognised Duke of Edinburgh’s President’s Award after being awarded the Silver Level of achievement. We wish her all the best for the most challenging level. SCIENCE EXPO Taya was invited by Enlit Africa to do a presentation on her Science Expo project at the Junior Changemakers Pitch Challenge at the CTICC last month. She continues to make us proud. INTERNATIONAL MATHEMATICS COMPETITION We are most proud of Jennifer who will be representing South Africa at the International Mathematics Competition in India later this year. During the holiday Jennifer will be training with the South African team at a training camp in Bloemfontein. WP RUGBY After many rounds of trials, Xolani has been selected as one of the u/13 players to represent Western Province at Craven Week this year. It is the first time we have someone in this age group achieving this honour. We look forward to watching his performance. SPORT We have had a great first half of the Winter Sport Season with all our teams performing well. We are particularly proud of our u/14 rugby and u/16 girl hockey team who ended the first half of the season undefeated. CULTURE Our debaters continued to make us proud by achieving well in both the Rotary League and the National Debating League. The Inter-house Public Speaking competition was revived and enjoyed by all. We enjoyed a number of bruchtime concerts in the Minor Hall and our jazz band entertained us in Curie Quad. The dancers achieved high accolades at the Cape Town Eisteddfod. SECONDARY FACULTY GRADES 7 - 12 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Sylvia Steyn As we are heading towards the final preparations for our musical production, The Wizard of Oz during the mid-year holiday, the excitement is loading for an unforgettable experience. The acting, singing and dancing will impress you, while the costumes and the set will blow your mind! Don’t forget to book your tickets at Quicket. We look back at a wonderful Autumn Quarter where our learners once again impressed us with their achievements in so many spheres of College life. The Grade 11s coordinated magnificent House Plays and the matrics entertained us at the highest level with their final fun event before the start of the mid-year examinations - the Matric Variety Show. Everyone left Curie Hall with a smile on their faces. On the sports field we celebrated the biggest number ever of winter sport teams entered into various leagues. The excitement of playing on Astro has resulted in a huge growth in interest in hockey and our teams have performed remarkably well against much more experienced schools. We now look forward to Derby Day against Somerset College next quarter! We celebrated World Book Day, Freedom Day and Mother’s Day in interesting ways. Our marimba players performed at the Baxter and our dancers impressed at the Cape Town Eisteddfod. The Mathematics Department celebrated remarkable achievements. It truly has been a great Autumn Quarter. The first set of examinations finished well and we trust that every learner will be satisfied with their results. Our educators must be commended for their dedication and commitment to preparing the learners to enter the examinations, feeling confident and ready. Our matrics will be arriving at the Wood Drive Hall between 17:00 and 18:30 on Saturday, 13 July for pre-drinks ahead of their Matric Ball. Please come join us to see them walk down the red carpet. LEARNER ACHIEVEMENTS A few of our learners who made us proud … NEDBANK ESSAY WRITING COMPETITION Kishen was a finalist in the Economics essay competition and was invited to do an oral presentation, demonstrating his knowledge and understanding of contemporary economic issues in South Africa.
