Quarter 4 Newsletter 2022

8 Play often. Maintain your sense of wonder whenever you discover something new. And always remember: people are more important than things. OUTREACH SPORT CULTURE As is the nature of a creative person, we can’t sit still and are always ready for a new and exciting challenge. Our Culture Department leapt into the fourth quarter with all sorts of wonderful activities and achievements. The Preparatory Art Department received the Cape Town Eisteddfod Ford Rose Bowl for the third consecutive year, achieving the most Diplomas and category winners in the Eisteddfod. We are extremely proud of all of our very talented artists. Thank you to Ms Hartley and Mrs Putter for their guidance and encouragement. Our Music Department continued to enter the Trinity Music practical examinations, achieving more Distinctions, a testament to the incredible work being done by our music educators. The highlight of the quarter was the Grade Six Recycled Fashion Show. This recycled fashion show started as a question to the Grade Sixes - What is your legacy? Meaning- how will you be remembered at the Preparatory School? Will you be remembered as a Creative Agent, a Purposeful Collaborator, or an Effective Communicator? The Grade Sixes were tasked with deciding on a theme - either something from a historical fashion period or something that had inspired them. They then needed to decide how to represent this theme as an item to wear, using found objects and recycled material. They also had to create or find music suited to the theme and be able to explain this to their audience. What a finale to the quarter! The learners rose to the occasion, designing interesting items and presenting them with confidence. The entire Preparatory Faculty joined us in the quad as the audience and thoroughly enjoyed the interaction. The day ended with a performance by all of our Marimba Bands. A fantastic ending to a busy, exciting quarter. Thank you to our Creative ‘Cast’ of educators in our Culture Department, who continue to nurture, guide and encourage our learners to explore and find their passion. “Sometimes, when I see my granddaughters make small discoveries of their own, I wish I were a child” - Dr Seuss Spring is back and has brought a return to the swimming pool. This Quarter our Preparatory learners have enjoyed the water activities, especially on the warm spring afternoons. Our Grade 3 learners have had their first taste of water polo during their introductory sessions. During these sessions they were introduced to the fundamental skills, such as treading water and swimming while controlling the ball. Our senior learners had the opportunity to play more regular matches this Quarter and produced some very good results. Well done to all of our water polo players. On 12 November the College hosted our inaugural Mini Cricket Festival at the Sandown Campus. The festival was attended by 20 teams from 9 schools, with 160 players playing at one time. This was a great opportunity for our players to experience a festival and play three matches throughout the morning. The Sport Department is looking forward to hosting this festival again in the near future. This year we welcomed sport back on a full-time basis and we look forward to bigger and better events in 2023. The Preparatory Faculty supported the local community and their schools with much needed items for 2022. During the first quarter we supported the Sunshine swim project who focussed on teaching children in vulnerable communities to swim as an essential life skill. We then moved on to a favourite, Easter Egg collecting. We shared this well deserved treat with Care Homes, schools and community services in the area. In July we supported Mandela Day. The Preparatory Campus celebrated their 67 minutes by completing a Mandela Day bookmark to go with the books we were collecting for Kerria Primary School, a non fee paying school in Atlantis. Our aim was 670 books and we managed to collect an amazing total of 1000 books. We continued to support Kerria Primary with much needed toiletry items for sports tours and outings in quarter three and ended the year with a collection of stationery and shoes. These items will assist the learners to begin the New Year with much needed equipment. We ended the year with a Santa Shoebox collection and a few extra toiletries for Tableview Angels. A special thank you to our learners and parents for supporting our initiatives. Your continued support and contributions make a big difference in the lives of those that receive them!
