3 Shakespeare Schools Festival Soccer Shakespeare Schools Festival Rugby SPORT Shakespeare School Festival SA It was with great excitement that the FET Drama Learners akaThe Company staged their performance of William Shakespeare's As You Like It on the 7th of May 2022 at the newly launched District 6 Theatre (formerly known as The Fugard). This formed part of the Shakespeare Schools Festival and was the third year in a row that Parklands College was performing. In 2020, just before Lockdown regulations were instigated, we had the privilege of performing on the same stage. Sadly the management team of the Fugard were forced to give up the theatre in 2021, no longer able to sustain the costs of running a theatre with no audience or productions. We were delighted to be performing again in a professional theatre in support of the arts community in the Mother City. Cape Town Dance Eisteddfod The Ballet and Stagebranch Eisteddfod started on 25 April and ended on 21 May. The Ballet adjudicator was Ingrid Landsberg and the Stagebranch adjudicator Debbie Jardine. It was a wonderful and enriching experience for our dancers to perform in front of an audience as the past 2 yrs the dancers have been filmed and entries submitted online. We walked away with outstanding overall results. The following secondary dancers won their sections Paige De Arajou – Winner for the 16 yrs Studio Set Tiara Cantika – Winner for the 17 yrs Studio Set Daniel Maclagan and Jean-Michelle De Blanche – Winners 15-16 yrs Own Choreography Duet Jean-Michelle De Blanche Winner for 15 -16 yrs Straight Set, Winner for 15 yrs Studio Set and Winner for Best Dancer 15-16 yrs Broadway Memories Production – Winner for the production section We are very proud of our Dance Department. Music From assembly performances to breaktime concerts to our Prestige Music Concert - our musicians have impressed! A highlight was for all the musicians to go on an outing to the Baxter Theatre for a live performance! Thea attended two evenings of the Big Band Festival and enjoyed every moment. Our own Jazz Band had the privilege to perform at the Artscape Youth Festival. Well done to the musicians and Mrs Johannes on keeping the Parklands flag flying high. Looking ahead STAGESTRUCK! Tickets for this wonderful showcase of talent will go on sale in July. Do not miss it! Finally, after a two year wait, our learners had a full Autumn Quarter of sport. Although hampered by many long weekends, we practiced, prepared and played 51 matches throughout the quarter. Simple, yet important highlights of the quarter were us seeing our learners test themselves against other schools and the presence of parental support on match days. Our focus is now on the second half of the Winter season which will be uninterrupted and allow us seven weeks of action on the courts and fields. Matches of the Quarter RUGBY The most memorable highlights of this quarter for rugby would be the U19A Rugby team playing against Durbanville High U19C in a pulsating match away from home. It is the first time that the College would take on a Northern Suburb Premier B school C team and we did not disappoint. It was an exciting match that ebbed and flowed right until the last whistle. Predators would eventually take the win against their more fancied opponents. We also saw the U15 Rugby team start to make great progress. After losing in their first match of the season the team went on to win 3 in a row and the boys showed that they just needed the confidence to start playing again. This is a very exciting group to watch going forward.
