Our learners lovingly created beautiful flying bees and golden beehives, cute frogs on lilypads and a bright tropical garden for worms to explore. Our little performers were such brave superstars as they stepped onto stage and sung beautifully with their whole hearts, entertaining the wonderfully receptive and encouraging audience. Thank you to everyone for your support and the love shown for our courageous little ones. We are so proud of our Grade Rs. Our learners were filled with joy when they discovered that a real petting zoo with live animals had come to visit. They bravely entered the enclosures where they had the opportunity to pet rabbits, guinea pigs, sheep and goats. They patiently waited for the tortoises to make their shy appearance from their shells and many a brave learner had chickens placed on their heads, with expressions of amusement, wonder, curiosity and excitement noted. Their delight was so lovely to behold. An annual highlight is a visit to Christopher Robin by “Madam Daleena”, otherwise known as Daniella Djan, a fabulously talented children’s book author and former colleague at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. Daniella is a speech and drama teacher who makes her stories come to life in a most vibrant, humorous and entertaining manner. She captivated our little learner’s attention and imagination with her beautifully narrated story called “Watch Out, Haughty Hudson!” The learners were gifted with a copy of this incredible story and we trust it will be read and re-read with fond memories and love in years to come. The Orchestra is an annual highlight at Parklands College and this year’s visit by the Cape Philharmonic Youth Orchestra proved exceptional. Our learners were introduced to the various members of the orchestra, from the String family to Percussion instruments. We were moved from laughter whilst watching the Orchestra perform ‘The typewriter’ song by Leroy Anderson, to tears and awe with the hauntingly beautiful Frozen soundtrack. It is such a privilege to welcome this first class world rated ensemble to our school and we are sure we have inspired many a budding musician to share and sharpen their talents by learning to play an instrument. Wishing all our families a safe, warm and wonderful holiday. We look forward to welcoming you back in the third quarter.
