Quarter 2 Newsletter 2022

11 This quarter had many first time school experiences for our little Tiggers and Honey Bees. We decorated donuts with Chef Kerry – yummy! To round off our Wild Animals theme, the children used their self-crafted binoculars to go out on a ‘Safari.’ Much excitement was seen and heard when pictures of wild animals that had been hidden in the garden were discovered! Some future game rangers may now just be in the making! We wish all our children and their families a very happy and safe holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back after the well-deserved break! GRADE 00 Lauren Cowing and Chanay de Klerk The Grade 00’s started off the quarter with a visit from The Petting Zoo. We thoroughly enjoyed playing, feeding, and petting many animals. The children had the opportunity to feed rabbits, pet a goat, watch guinea pigs scuttle around, and some children even wore a chicken as a hat! The smiles all around were heart-warming to see. On World Book Day we had an amazing time becoming creative and colourful characters! We stretched our imaginations and had lots of fun playing fantasy games. The Roos and Kangas loved learning about different occupations. We had a wonderful dress-up day where the children dressed up as firefighters, doctors, princesses, vets, pilots, palaeontologists, and many other occupations. Another highlight of the quarter was the May Play. The parents were very excited to be invited to watch their children perform. After months of practising the songs, the Roos and Kangas had their moment in the spotlight and made their teachers and parents very proud! We have had a busy and exciting quarter, and we look forward to what the next quarter will bring. Have a safe and restful holiday. GRADE R Tali Maltz, Candice Kemp, Andrea Reynolds This quarter has been abundantly full of excitement, adventure and creativity. We have delighted in learning about homes, seasons, space, healthy environments and all who live in them. Our eagerly anticipated first concert with an audience touched upon a related environmental theme, namely that of insects. We Bicycle week was thoroughly enjoyed by all and it was great to witness the friendly competition between the little ones as they raced one another. The petting zoo was as always a huge hit with both teachers and children. It was heartwarming to see how gently the Butterflies and Caterpillars handled the various animals who visited us. This visit fits right in with our themes on animals this quarter. We thoroughly enjoyed learning about all the different animals and mimicking the sounds and movements of the animals. The Butterflies delighted in learning “The Haddidah” song and had fun doing the chicken dance while the little Caterpillars enjoyed taking a walk through the jungle. Our gardens gave us first hand experiences of the wonderful changes in nature during Autumn. Little wheelbarrows were pushed around to pick up beautifully coloured autumn leaves. It was wonderful to watch the little ones jump in the leaves and throw them up in the air. The Butterflies found special Autumn leaves on route to class in the mornings to bring to their teacher for pinning on the board. We enjoy watching the weather change and on rainy days we stand at the window watching and listening to the rain. As soon as we are able to go outside we jump in the puddles with our Wellington boots on. It was warm and cozy to come to school in our fluffy slippers and pajamas on Slipper Day and what a treat to decorate our own donuts with Chef Kerry - super yumm! We can’t believe that the second quarter is already behind us. We wish you a happy holiday break. Stay warm and safe. We look forward to your return in July. GRADE 000 Lauren Medcalf and Colette Jagles The Tiggers and Honey Bees’ Houses had a wonderful Autumn quarter! The quarter has been filled with learning on how to care for our pets, what animals we find on a farm, the animals of the wild, what wonderful creatures we find under the sea and of course a firm favourite - dinosaurs! We started the quarter with a visit from the Petting Zoo. The boys and girls were super excited to pet and brush some of the animals with lots of giggles being heard and smiling faces seen. The bunnies were definitely most liked by the Tiggers and the chicken a firm favourite of the Honey Bees. Bicycles, push motorbikes and scooters in all shapes and sizes came to school during our bike week. It allowed for wonderful incidental learning about road safety and how to be safe on our bikes. It was such a joy seeing the 000’s whizzing along the pathways. For World Book Day we had the infectious personality of Madam Delilah, aka Daniella Djan, who came to school to read and act out her very own written book “Watch out, Haughty Hudson”. What a treat it was to hear the author come and read her book to us! Receiving their very own copy of the book was an extra special touch. The Tiggers and Honey Bees also dressed up as a character from a book to add to the wonder of the day. On 1 June we celebrated International Children’s Day with a Superhero dress up day. The little ones (and teachers) all enjoyed showing off their superpower skills out in the garden in the lovely late autumn sun.
