Quarter 2 Newsletter 2022

10 PRE-PRIMARY FACULTY GRADES 0000 - R . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Riette Pieterse It has been a busy quarter and to celebrate World Book Day, on Friday 22 April, the renowned author, Daniella Djan captivated our little audiences with her enthralling story and interactive participation of her book, “Watch out, Haughty Hudson!”. This was a very special time in the Pre-Primary and we all enjoyed listening to this wonderfully original African story. The children were encouraged to dress up as their favourite character from a book and of course to donate a book to Elundini Cetre for our April outreach. The Autumn quarter kickstarted with the very exciting and interactive shows Petting Zoo visit. The children utilized all their senses when interacting with the guinea pigs, baby chicks, rabbits, rats and piglets. Some even allowed the animals to sit on their laps, while others were more reserved, but had fun imitating the sound of the animals. The school was lively and humming with the zooming and scooting of bikes during our Bike week, in celebration of Bike Day. The learners were thrilled to show off their bikes of various sizes and colours and to test their racing skills. I would like to thank all the parents, family and friends who attended our May Play performances. Besides enjoying the singing and acting, we were delighted with all the children for remembering their words and actions and having the confidence to perform in front of an audience. The pride was written all over the parents and teachers faces. Special thanks to the teachers and children for their hard work. CRACKERJACKS Erin Liggett and Ingrid Lubbe What busy little bodies our Crackerjacks have been during our Autumn Quarter! The fun and learning in our unit has been limitless. Our learners have amazed us with their eagerness to investigate and explore and we are so proud of them! design an app that could be used to present their English oral presentations this quarter. They were excited to learn how to use the magic move feature as well as explore all the various animations and effects. SPORT The Second Quarter started with two successful sporting tours. The soccer team travelled to Dinokeng Nature Reserve to participate in the annual Camp Discovery Soccer Festival. The team performed well and represented the College proudly. The boys shared great camaraderie as they benefited from the many different activities that the Camp has to offer. Our netball girls participated in the Backward Point netball festival held in Knysna. The girls played a mammoth 12 games in 5 days. Their improvement from the first to last game was evident for all to see. The tour offered so much more than just netball fixtures. The girls were able to experience walking alongside elephants at the Knysna Elephant Park and were treated to a tour of the Knysna lagoon. We look forward to seeing how the girls implement what they learned on tour in their weekly fixtures. On the 13th of May, the Preparatory kicked off with their Winter Cricket Skills sessions. These sessions are open to all learners from Grade 1-6 and the aim is to improve the fundamentals of the sport during the off season. The first session was well attended, and we hope this programme will go from strength to strength. Our teams have been busy over the weekends representing the school at a number of festivals. The rugby teams had a very successful festival at Blouberg Ridge, while our U/8 and U/9 netball girls got their first taste of festival action at the Monte Vista Mini Netball Festival in May. Our senior girls (U/10 - U/12) opened their season with a festival at TVPS. This quarter also saw the successful introduction of TAG Rugby to our sports programme. We are very excited to have the TAG team on board, and the learners have benefited from their expertise. We look forward to seeing the development of all our junior rugby players going forward. Looking ahead to next quarter we are starting our hockey Masterclasses. The intention is to send our girls to the Hockey Institute at Stellenbosch University, where they will be guided by current Maties players and coaches. This will be a great opportunity for our players to hone their skills.
