Quarter 2 Newsletter June 2019
12 GRADE 00 The Grade 00’s started off this busy and exciting quarter with a visit from The Petting Zoo. We had tremendous fun playing with, feeding, and petting many animals. The children had the opportunity to feed rabbits, pet a goat, watch guinea pigs scuttle around, and some children even wore a chicken as a hat! The smiles all around were heart-warming to see. On World Book Day we had an amazing time becoming creative and colourful characters! We stretched our imaginations and had lots of fun playing fantasy games. World Book Day was a fantastic excuse to read to our heart’s content, and we spent the entire week engrossed in stories of many kinds. The Roo’s and Kanga’s loved learning about different occupations. We were lucky enough to have a few special parents who were able to volunteer their time to talk to the children about their jobs, as well as the importance of their occupation. We dressed up as firefighters, doctors, princesses, vets, pilots, paleontologists, and many more. The May Play was such a beautiful showcase of the talent we have in Grade 00. After months of practicing the songs, the Roo’s and Kanga’s had their moment in the spotlight and sang like angels. We definitely have quite a few stars in the making. Everyone had the opportunity to bring a fluffy friend to school for our Teddy Bears Picnic. We carefully iced marie biscuits, put sprinkles on, and then had a delicious picnic lunch with our fluffy friends. We have had a busy and exciting quarter, and we look forward to what next quarter will bring. Have a safe and restful holiday. Sarah de Graeff and Lauren Cowing GRADE R The Autumn quarter is always filled with excitement and wonderful events in the Pre-Primary. There is so much change to witness, be it during science lessons, whilst becoming experts at I.T, teaching our parents new skills, or watching our brave learners changing from shy Grade 00 learners to brave, enthusiastic actors on stage. We invited parents to school to explore our Parklands Playground. We had a morning of wonderful innovation, collaboration and creativity, exploring shapes using Lego in playdough, team building in creating graphs, looking at interactive books and apps in the library and designing intricate models in Robotics. The learners were incredibly enthusiastic to share this fun and learning, and were thrilled to adopt the role of educators to their parents. Thank you to all who joined us for this amazing experience. We proudly celebrated our amazing mothers on Mother’s day. We created beautiful collage flowers, planted real flowers and made magnificent cards in which we expressed our gratitude for all they do for us on a daily basis. We hope all our moms enjoyed their special day and felt spoilt with their special treats. Our May Play is always a tremendous opportunity to showcase our developing skills, our sense of rhythm and our incredible voices. The Orchestra melodically performed their pieces on the xylophone, drums and triangle, whilst our ballet boy and girls entranced the audience 12 PROPOSED DATES FOR THE 3rd QUARTER 10 July: 15 July: 19 July: 23-26 July: 26 July: 2 August: 9 August: 16 August: 23 August: 27 August: 30 August: 2 September: 3 September: 4 September: 5 September: 6 September: 10 September: 11 September: 13 September: 14 September: 16 September: 16 September: 17 September: 18 September: Learner’s return Extra murals start Tigger’s House cake sale Grade R School Readiness Feedback Meetings Pooh Bear’s House cake sale Rabbit’s House cake sale Public Holiday: Women’s Day Owl’s House cake sale Kanga’s House cake sale Robbie Robot Road Safety Show (Gr 000) Roo’s House cake sale Honey Bees and their Hives (Grade 00) Mad Hatters Spring Day Celebration Special Persons Day Celebrations Grade 000 10:00-11:00 Special Persons Day Celebrations Grade 00 10:00-11:00 Special Persons Day Celebrations Grade R 10:00-11:00 Water Cycle Adventures (Grade R) Honey Bee’s House cake sale Concert Photographs Class photographs Tigger’s House cake sale Open Day Mammals of South Africa (Grade 00) Report Feedback Meetings Experi-buddies show about seeds and germination (Grade R) Ball Day for all Grades Last Day of the quarter with their graceful moves, dressed in their stunning and adorable outfits. A few learners proudly demonstrated their talent, playing seamlessly on the piano. Thank you to each and every audience member who came to listen, encourage and support this incredible variety of little showmen and ladies. June is a special month for our fathers. Father’s Day provides us with the privilege of appreciating our fathers and acknowledging their hard work and special role within our family. Our Grade R’s have listed these as helping to cheer them up, being the best golfers, making the most delicious dinners and simply for being tall and loving. Thank you for all you do for your little ones throughout the year, dads. The Grade R learners have been treated to a few shows this quarter, including KC the Koala as well as an amazing puppet show about Dinosaurs. They learnt about “power no”; their right to assert themselves and tell others to stop when something makes them unhappy. During the Dinosaur show, they explored the wonderful world of dinosaurs, learning about those that lived on land and ones found in water and they were able to hold the most beautifully crafted puppets ranging from Tyrannosaurus Rex’s to Pterodactyls. Wishing all our families a safe, happy and warm holiday. We look forward to seeing you all again in July. Tali Maltz, Samantha Eagle and Anine De Lange
