Quarter 2 Newsletter June 2019
11 PRE-PRIMARY FACULTY GRADES 0000 - R . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Chantel Lamb This quarter we celebrated World Book Day on 23 April, and the learners arrived dressed as their favourite book characters. We met Matildas, witches, wizards, lions, bears, superheroes and princesses! At Christopher Robin Pre-Primary, we encourage our children to explore the pleasures of books, every day, through stories, discussions, puppetry, and role play. TheAutumn quarter boasted several exciting and interactive shows to ignite creativity and enrich learning experiences. The Petting Zoo visited the Crackerjacks and Grade 000’s this quarter. The children utilized all their senses when interacting with the guinea pigs, baby chicks, rabbits, rats and piglets. Some even allowed the animals to sit on their laps, while others were more reserved, but had fun imitating the sound of the animals. KC Koala taught our Grade R’s about kindness and the power and right of saying “NO!” Daisy Dinosaur enthralled our Tiggers and Honey Bees, who learned about the wonderful world of dinosaurs: Their claws, scales, jaws and behaviour. We believe it is important to teach our young learners the value of giving and caring for others in our community. This instills empathy and compassion in our children – virtues that are vital. We recently celebrated International Children’s Day and invited our teddy bears and soft toys to school to join us for a picnic. Our R10 admission fee for our teddy bears was donated to Sisonke Sibambisene Early Childhood Development Centre. Christopher Robin Pre- Primary also participated in the “Reach for a Dream Slipper Day” and had a great deal of fun wearing our ‘fluffies’ to school, while supporting this wonderful cause. The school was lively and humming with the zooming and scooting of bikes on our Grade 000 and Grade 00 Bike Day. The learners were thrilled to show off their bikes of various sizes and colours and to test their racing skills. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our parent body, family and friends who attended our annual, much anticipated May Play. Aside from enjoying the singing and acting, we were delighted that the children remembered their words and actions and were confident to perform in front of such a large audience. We extend our special thanks to the teachers and children for their hard work. We wish all our children and parents a wonderful holiday break, and some relaxing time with your family. We look forward to welcoming all the learners back to school on Wednesday 10 July 2019. Chantel Lamb CRACKERJACKS What a busy and fun- filled Autumn Quarter the Crackerjacks have had. The children really enjoyed having the petting zoo visit us at school. They delighted in sitting on the hay bales whilst feeding yummy carrots to the little bunny rabbits and guinea pigs. They waited with great excitement for their turn to brush and groom the very friendly goats. What a treat this was! On World Book day we had some dress up fun and it was wonderful to see different characters from their favourite story books. They all enjoyed bringing their books from home to read to their friends. In celebration of International Children’s Day all our fluffy friends had the opportunity to join us at school. The teddies were treated like royalty and raised money for a worthy cause in the process. The little ones really enjoyed the task of making their own iced biscuits and, of course, there were plenty of sprinkles. The jumping castle was enjoyed by all. What an exciting day was had by all! The Butterflies especially enjoyed the theme of farms. They read many farmyard tales and created the cutest pigs playing in muddy puddles. They particularly liked listening to the animal sounds and identifying the matching animal. Our Ladybirds delighted in learning all about the wonderful creatures that are found ‘under the sea’. They love exploring the theme table and had so many questions. They also created the most colourful jellyfish and were proud of their hard work. The Caterpillars enjoyed the songs and short stories this quarter. They were particularly fond of ‘if you’re happy, happy clap your hands’ and delighted in acting out the movements. Finally, they created the most beautiful textured lions for our theme on wild life. We are looking forward to an eventful and exciting winter quarter. Have a wonderful holiday! Ingrid Lubbe, Jamie Udeman and Lauren Medcalf GRADE 000 This quarter we had so much fun learning about pets, farms animals, wild animals, sea creatures and dinosaurs. The Tigger’s and Honey Bee’s children especially loved discovering interesting facts about the animals under the sea. While discussing dinosaurs, we learned some big words such as “extinct”, “herbivore” and “carnivore.” During our theme of the farm, we were lucky enough to have a petting zoo come to our school. We were able to touch and cuddle all sorts of animals such as rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens, goats and sheep. What a treat! Slipper day was celebrated and the children loved coming to school in their warm pyjamas. We also celebrated International Children’s Day with a teddy bears picnic. The boys and girls all enjoyed spending the day with their special bears while they iced biscuits and enjoyed a special treat on the jumping castle. During some of the rainy days, we have enjoyed spending time in the block room building big houses and bridges with the soft bricks. On one occasion, we divided into small groups and were challenged to build a home for our pets. It was amazing to see the creativity, critical thinking and planning that our little ones demonstrated. We wish all our children and their families a very happy and safe holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming everyone back after the well deserved break! Candice Kemp and Suzette Watkins
