Magazine 2019

12 Christopher Robin Pre-Primary was bursting with energy in the first week of school as we welcomed our new and old children. Our building and beautiful playgrounds were once again alive with the sound of laughter, singing and little voices. Our main focus at the beginning of the year is settling our littlest - they delighted in bubble blowing, lots of cuddles and, of course, Marie biscuit treats. We are passionate about our creative, colourful and caring Pre-Primary. The children’s days are filled with lots of imaginative activities like painting, pasting and discovery. Music and singing form part of our day, and sand and sensory play provide tactile experiences. Educational games include puzzles, shape sorters, matching and pegboards. Outdoor play is experienced throughout the day, to develop good gross motor coordination and healthy bodies. Our stage of education is critical. We continue to lay the foundation and celebrate and nurture all we hold dear for our little children: happiness, confidence, resilience and developing good brains, bodies and hearts. This year, we have specifically focused on developing the all-important gross motor skills that the little ones need in order to support their overall development. Our kitted-out gross motor room has been extremely busy as both the teachers and learners have been in and out, getting equipment for obstacle courses and fun movement activities. The children have particularly enjoyed the trampoline and the sensory balancing beams. They have also been learning to cooperate and work in pairs and teams to support their growing social skills. Our 2019 theme of “Every Word Counts”, permeated every aspect of our learning: from using the right words, to developing a healthy self-esteem, to reading, listening and encouraging lots of speaking and listening activities. Our Eager Ears and Jolly Phonics Programme enhance the children’s listening skills and include games, songs and rhymes, in order to facilitate the development of auditory perception. 11 March marked a special day on our calendar and our school was abuzz with excitement as CRPP celebrated its 39th birthday. On this day in 1980, Lorraine Roth opened the doors of Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School to the residents of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. The College continues to grow as a result of the outstanding education and foundation our learners receive and we look forward to providing many more years of exceptional, innovative education beginning in the early years. The birthday celebrations culminated in mini Olympics. Our little athletes maneuvered their way around obstacle courses, played fun ball games and improved their coordination, balance and agility. In the second quarter, the Crackerjacks and Grade 000s enjoyed the Petting Zoo. It is by far the most exciting event at school for our littlest people. The children touched and fed the animals and even had some guinea pigs and baby chicks sitting on their laps. The Grade R’s met KC Koala, the mascot, who taught the children about kindness and the power and right to say, “NO!” Daisy Dinosaur enthralled our Tiggers and Honey Bees, who learned about the wonderful world of dinosaurs, including their claws, scales, jaws and behaviour. “We are passionate about our creative, colourful and caring Pre-Primary.”
