11 We believe that children begin to learn as soon as they are born, and that the first seven years of life are crucial in a child’s development. This is the time when the foundation is laid for later learning, both in your home and at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. These vital foundations are established through experimentation, discovery, incidental learning and play. Our children’s Pre-Primary years are precious and should be carefree and fun. Never again is there a time when they can develop at their own pace and learn incidentally. We are very aware of the importance of play for our little ones. We know that through play, children learn to interact with others, develop language skills, recognize and solve problems and make sense of and find their place in the world. Our children LOVE to play with big boxes that become thrones, buses and other interesting things. They build high towers and castles. Our lovely home corners encourage our little people to become anything from masterchefs, princes and princesses to wild animals. Hairdresser-hairdresser, Mommy and Daddy, and fireman-fireman are some of the favourite games played. This creative play helps the children develop their imagination as well as social and emotional skills like forming friendships, acquiring the skills to share and take turns and learning to care for those around them. We also love sensory activities as they facilitate exploration and naturally encourage children to use scientific processes while they play, create, investigate and explore. Sensory play is a great way for children to explore the world they live in, while having lots of messy fun.The rough-and-tumble of active play also facilitates sensorimotor development. The evidence is clear: healthy children of all ages love to play and what better place to play than at Christopher Robin Pre-Primary. There is always a hive of activity throughout the day, great smells coming from our kitchen and lovely music, singing and playing.
