126 WATER POLO Water Polo had a fresh start after the effects of the drought last year. We entered 5 teams into the league. The commencement of the water polo programme was hugely exciting and successful. The 1st team (boys and girls) at- tended the prestigious Chukka Festival in Knysna in February. All teams grew in confidence, skills and determination after every outing in the pool. Our strength in rebuilding this amazing sport lies in our juniors who played very well, especially as this was a first for some learners. Finally, we ended the season with our hosting the 3rd edition of our water polo tournament. Many schools entered and the day was enjoyed by all. With the continued commit- ment and perseverance, the Parklands College teams can only grow and will soon be a force to be reckoned with! Our swimming squad is to be commended on their commitment and camaraderie – they swam exceptionally well. We have talented swimmers – many who belong to swimming clubs, but Parklands College was always their first priority. This quar - ter we teamed up with Cybersmart Swimming Club for the coaching of our swimmers. We are very proud of Lindi Cillie who has once again outdone herself in the pool this year. The most recent events being South African Junior & Senior Nationals held in April this year in Durban. At SA Junior, Lindi competed in the open age division in 6 events, qualifying in 5 finals and receiving silver for the 50m freestyle event, placing her second in the country in her age group. At SA Senior Nationals Lindi competed in 5 events, 3 relays and qualified in one final being 50m freestyle finishing in 6th place and missing JuniorWorlds by 0,19 seconds. Her time in the 50m freestyle event placed her in 1st place inYouth winning gold and silver medals in the 100m freestyle events. Lindi is swimming competitively and looking forward to the Olympic qualifying event in 2020. COACHES:Tarryn Baines and Cybersmart Swimming MANAGERS: Candrine Atkins, Petro Bester & Suné Bloem NETBALL The season started with excellent news; Parklands College was invited to enter a league one up from the previous year, due to our recent results and team numbers. We are aiming to improve this by progressing into the superleague which is the highest league for schools netball, currently we are only one league below the super - league. We entered nine teams, and our youngsters are already better equipped for the years to come. The standard was extremely high which resulted in losses but our vision of competing against the best is firmly becoming a reality. The under 14 team were undefeat - ed and advanced to the play-off rounds at the end of their season. We cannot wait for this amazing group of girls to get to 1st team level in the near future. Personal achievement goes to Unam Gida (Grade 11) and Chantel Myburgh (Grade 8) who both made the Cape Town High Schools Netball Teams for age groups U18 and U14 respectively. Congratulations also goes to Ms CharleneVan DerWesthuizen who was one of theWP U16 selectors this year.
