Every grade in the Senior Preparatory has gone mad with their MAD Cultural Project. This exciting project integrates Music, Art and Drama, which gives it the MAD name. The project set off sparks of enthusiasm amongst the learners, who took ownership of their learning. Learners designed clay sculptures and got them talking with Chatterpix for Kids and iMovie. DoInk was used with the green screen to create bespoke backgrounds and assisted in unleashing their creativity. There was no limit! Being the centennial year of Nelson Mandela, the Grade Four’s took a virtual trip to Robben Island and ‘stood’ in what was once Madiba’s prison cell. Before the trip began, one learner proclaimed, “I hope I don’t get seasick!” The drought in the Western Cape has been of great concern to our school and our learners. They have created posters of awareness and presentations to farmers on how to help save water and curb the terrible effects of the lack of water. Our Grade Six’s planned a trip around the world using research skills, Safari and their knowledge of lines of longitude and latitude. They were sure to acknowledge their sources as this is a crucial digital citizenship skill. The itinerary was creatively put together in Keynote. Hellen Keller shared these wise words: “Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.” This quote expresses the appreciation due to our teachers. The continued infectious enthusiasm for our ongoing innovative technology integration is thanks to our dedicated Preparatory staff. They take on every adventure with gusto and rigour and think of creative projects to seamlessly implement into their classroom. Our teachers attend many Professional Development sessions both internally and externally, come back and share their knowledge and collaborate with colleagues to create and ignite more enthusiasm amongst themselves and their learners as we prepare them for this wonderful world, that is the 21st Century.
