4. 5. 3. SOFTBALL Softball has seen record numbers of girls signing up for this very popular sport. We entered five teams into the league (4 senior teams and one U15 team). During the first half of the season, the first team played particularly well, winning six and losing two matches. We started the season by taking part in the annual Elkanah tournament, to which the College sent three teams, two senior teams, as well as U15. All teams performed well, which augured well for the season and the future of softball. While we had a large number of Grade 12 players this year and will need to rebuild our first team, we are confident for the future due to the strong younger players moving up. The future for softball looks very good at the College as we have a lot of talent amongst all of our teams and we are looking forward to seeing them reaching new heights. All our other softball teams did us proud as their commitment and dedication ensured an enjoyable and memorable season. Our 1st team in particular performed consistently throughout the season, as they only lost 2 out of 8 matches in total. TENNIS We had record numbers of learners signing up for boys’ and girls’ tennis this year. For the first time, we had to have schedules for the learners so that we could accommodate all those interested in learning and playing the game of tennis. These huge numbers resulted in our choosing the best 1st teams for boys and girls. We won all our league matches this year. With the increase in numbers we shall be introducing a second team. We are fortunate to have a number of talented juniors which bodes well for the future of tennis at the College. Congratulations to the following Western Province players: Jack Buchanan U13 Jaryd Visser U15 Ulrich Koch U15 Storme Pike U15 Ryan Baines U16 “Sports teaches you character, it teaches you to play by the rules, it teaches you to know what it feels like to win and lose - it teaches you about life.” Billie Jean King 151. parklands.co.za
