7 We hosted a Takeover Day once again this quarter. The Grade Two and Five learners had great fun creating their short scripted film using their maker space puppets. Green screen sheets filled the Grade Three quad as iMovie techniques were used to bring the characters to life. Music from Garageband added the final touch. The excitement was palpable and a fun day of learning was had by all. Our enrichment teachers continue to strive for excellence, extending the learners in our care by challenging them with innovative ideas and encouraging them to pursue all thought processes in their design thinking. SPORT From netball, hockey, soccer and rugby to festivals, the sporting landscape at the Preparatory Faculty is rich with opportunities for learners to thrive and excel. This quarter we had the unique opportunity to collaborate with the Secondary Faculty. In particular, our hockey learners benefitted from regular excursions to the Secondary Faculty's Astro turf. This provided our hockey players with access to wonderful facilities and invaluable practice opportunities. This partnership not only enhances sports development but also fosters a sense of connection across the faculties. Festivals serve as a chance to showcase our learners’ talents and compete against other schools. These events are about fostering sportsmanship, teamwork and personal growth. Whether it's on the field or in the stands, the spirit of friendly competition and mutual respect permeates every festival, creating lasting memories for participants. Sports at the Preparatory Faculty encourage valuable life lessons that extend far beyond the playing field. From teamwork and leadership to perseverance and resilience, learners develop a range of skills that will serve them well in all aspects of their lives, as can be seen in the Knysna Netball Tour feedback. KNYSNA NETBALL TOUR Our time at the Knysna Netball Tour was an incredible journey filled with unforgettable moments and remarkable achievements. From the joyous afternoon splash in the hotel pool to the delightful "build a burger" dinner, the girls embraced every experience with enthusiasm and energy from day one. Despite facing challenges such as rain delays and slippery courts, their determination remained unwavering. Even though we didn't always come out on top in every match, their resilience and passion for the game were truly admirable. Interacting with the elephants at Knysna Elephant Park was a highlight, creating cherished memories and spreading sheer happiness. And who could forget our outstanding victory against St George's? It was a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team. The adventures didn't stop there; from exploring the Knysna Estuary to battling it out on the court, each day brought new opportunities for growth and camaraderie. And on the final day, despite a tough match, our girls showcased exceptional defence and determination, ending the tournament on a high note. We reflect on the incredible journey we've shared and the support that has propelled us forward. To our talented netball girls, thank you for embodying the spirit of sportsmanship and resilience throughout this memorable tour. - Simoné Prinsloo U/12 Netball Tour Recap A fantastic tour from start to finish! The girls grew from strength to strength, with a notable difference in their performances from Friday to Sunday. They put in extra hours off the court, formalising strategic plays and being dynamic with squad rotation. Despite facing elite opposition, the girls showed grit, determination and courage. While the results didn’t always go our way, the girls fought exceptionally well and secured some wins as the tournament progressed. It was an incredible showing and a true example of what it means to be a Parkie. - Jared Margetts.
