2 quote Kofi Annan, Former Secretary-General of the United Nations, “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” The values necessary to sustain life on earth, as humans and environmentalists, are incorporated in five global competencies across our curriculumunder our “Growing Minds” approach: Critical Thinkers are essential for survival on earth, they mindfully build their own futures whilst being cognisant of humanity and the environment; Effective Communicators promote dialogue across all platforms and share thoughts and ideas whilst seeking to understand the thinking and opinions of others; Purposeful Collaborators strive to build partnerships and lead by example; Creative Agents envisage the possibilities and potential of their imagination and curiosity- they are resilient and adaptable in a climate of change, creating innovative ideas with value and meaning, supported by technology and AI. Finally, Responsible Citizens are conscious of their actions and act with honesty, empathy, fairness, integrity and respect towards others. The world in which we now live is volatile, extreme and unpredictable. We are dealing with an unsettled humanity, climate change, global shortages and an endangered planet, but there is tremendous hope and a belief in a better world, in which it is possible for all to flourish. Our children are that hope for a positive future, they are the youth taking action and leading at the cusp of change. They are our global futurepreneurs. Knowledge carries with it the responsibility of ensuring that it is optimally implemented in the world and we, as parents and teachers, are responsible for sharing knowledge and past experiences in order to best prepare our children for the many demands they will face in the future. I can proudly say that we have positively touched the lives of thousands of children and continue to do so as we build opportunities for each learner, in order to create a successful present whilst working towards a brilliant future. A place of learning, such as this one, requires the involvement, commitment and dedication of every role player: Learners, parents, educators, principals and the Board. Thank you to each and every one for making this school the wonderful place that it is and for contributing towards the outstanding teaching and learning that takes place. 2023 will be a year of celebration as Christopher Robin Pre- Primary turns 43 and Parklands College celebrates 25 years on the Western Seaboard. We look forward to welcoming you all back in the new year in which we will embrace our theme, ‘Kindness’. May the Holiday Season bring you its treasures in abundance: lasting friendships, family joys, health and prosperity.
