Quarter 1 Newsletter 2022
2 TOP ACHIEVER 2022 The year started off on a high note with the announcement of Parklands College as a top performing school at the Western Province 2021 National Senior Certificate Awards. Parklands College achieved 100% pass rate and 96% of our learners passed with entry to Bachelor Degree Studies. We were also most proud of Jana Grobbelaar who was the top achiever from Independent Schools in the Western Province. Jane received an additional award for achieving 100% in Accounting. At the Academic and Honours Ceremony at the start of the year, we celebrated the excellent results by our learners at the end of 2021. SECONDARY FACULTY GRADES 7 - 12 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Sylvia Steyn In the past 10 weeks of the Summer Quarter, we slowly started feeling ourselves again. We could finally gather together for assemblies and events, play sports matches and even go camping! Because we were making up for lost time, the calendar filled up daily and by the end of the quarter everyone was ready for a well deserved break. Rest well, because when we return, we have just over a month before the mid-year examinations commence. We had a great many new learners joining the College at the start of the year - in all grades, even Grade 12. It has been very encouraging to get positive feedback from them about how they have been welcomed and integrated into the Parklands family. We love this about our learners; they go out of their way to make visitors or newbies feel welcome. Our hearts go out to Mrs Smïd who went through a difficult ordeal last year, went into remission, but has had to start the journey of chemotherapy again. Our love and our thoughts are with her all the way. At the end of the Summer Quarter we bid farewell to the talented Mr Swanepoel in the Music Department and to Mr Loseby in the Mathematics Department. We wish them well on their new endeavours. The past two years have been difficult and although we are grateful for being more privileged than most, it has been tough on the mental health of learners and staff. It is of vital importance that we care for each other, that we are kind to each other and that we make a concerted effort to be aware of each other. A burden shared is a burden halved. Let’s spread love and joy as widely as we can. We look forward to a number of exciting developments on campus, e.g. the opening of Kauai and the long awaited exit gate at the end of the parking lot. Please remember to contact your child’s Grade Head if you have any queries or concerns about anything on the Secondary Campus - they will direct you to the relevant people if they can’t assist.
