Quarter 1 Newsletter 2022

11 Our ‘Family’ theme took us on an adventure nature walk on the big field, collecting leaves and sticks to create our beautiful family trees. When creating our family trees we named who lives in our house, counted the amount of leaves out for each family member and pasted them on the painted trees. The art pieces are currently displayed in the classroom for all to admire, and will soon be sent home for framing! Threading scrumptious and fresh fruit on skewers was such a special snack time treat and a wonderful learning experience this quarter. We wish our little people a restful and safe holiday, ready for many more learning, playing, discovery and exploring school days in the autumn quarter! GRADE 00 Lauren Cowing and Chanay de Klerk The Kangas and Roos have enjoyed their first quarter in Grade 00 and deserve praise for settling beautifully into their new classes. We have had a fun-filled quarter learning about new themes, playing outside in the sandpit, on the jungle gyms and have taken part in exciting activities in the classroom. Opposite Day was a highlight and the children enjoyed coming to school in their mismatched clothing, back to front shirts, different socks, and inside-out clothing. The 00’s loved the ‘Five Senses Show’ which sparked their excitement to learn more about the senses theme. A heartfelt thank you to the children and parents for going the extra mile in bringing sensory items to school. This theme will be long talked about, and fondly remembered for many years! We look forward to another exciting quarter next term. We wish all the Kanga and Roo families a safe holiday. GRADE R Tali Maltz, Candice Kemp, Andrea Reynolds Our first quarter has been a delightful and exciting time for our enthusiastic new little Grade R learners. They have thoroughly enjoyed their introduction to many new lessons including ball skills on Wednesdays with coach Marc, Robotics as well as Recorder on Fridays. They have learned a repertoire of wonderful songs and have been introduced to a multitude of new words in Xhosa. Another highlight of the learner’s week is our Six Bricks sessions. Our learners create, design, collaborate, engineer, count and simply have tremendous fun using 6 coloured Duplo bricks which develop logic, problem solving, critical and collaborative thinking and memory skills. The introduction of the six bricks ipad app has added a whole new dimension to our stimulating lessons. Our new learners have thoroughly loved using our soft bricks in Block room. They have actively used their imagination to create intricate cities, furniture and even some wildlife. We are astounded by the level of ingenuity, creativity and team-work demonstrated on a daily basis. Our STEM area in the foyer has provided a space for role play, social interaction and much humour and entertainment. We are so fortunate to have vibrant and inviting venues at our disposal. They also have been an opportunity to learn the vital skills of sorting and tidying up, which enhance independence in Grade R. We have loved our exciting weekly events, including cake sales, ‘Manors for Minors’, friendship day and build your own burgers. The Grade R’s learnt about sun safety this quarter during the ‘Sun Smart’ show. They were taught about safety and protective clothing that is suitable for sunny days and were given special light sensitive bracelets which demonstrated the impact of sunblock in shielding us from harmful UV rays. The jingle jangle of children safely at play whilst wearing hats, sun block and their new accessories was delightful to observe during playtime. In ‘Manners for Minors’ our learners were taught about how to respectfully speak to one another and what is socially appropriate and kind behaviour. They carried these very important lessons with them, after the show, to class and the playground, where they proudly demonstrate good citizenship, care and consideration toward one another. We are so proud of our little ones and all the skills they have learnt this quarter. We wish you a safe and wonderful holiday and look forward to welcoming you back next quarter.
