Quarter 1 Newsletter 2022

10 CRACKERJACKS Ingrid Lubbe, Erin Leggitt and Phahiswa Rasmeni We are very proud of our little Caterpillars and Butterflies for settling so happily into their new routines! They are thoroughly enjoying their days at school, eagerly exploring and investigating the world around them. We have had some lovely warm weather, enabling us to have lots of play in the sunshine. The little ones have especially delighted in engaging in water and sand play. The children love racing on our little scooters, laughing and whizzing by with such joy! Our first dress up day of the year was celebrated on Friendship Day. The little ones looked so beautiful wearing the friendship colours of red, white and pink. The theme of ‘Our Bodies’ was enjoyed by all, as we explored our hands and feet, eyes and ears, our mouth and nose. We painted our hands and felt the coldness of the wet paint and dipped our feet into paint, making colourful footprints. They eagerly joined in to sing songs about their bodies such as “Head, shoulders, knees and toes” and “Shake your sillies out”. They always look forward to their little music lessons with Teacher Bronwen once a week. We also particularly liked learning about healthy food and making very delicious fruit kebabs with our wonderful Chef Kerry. The children threaded their own kebabs with banana, strawberries, grapes, watermelon and many more fresh fruit. What a yummy day they had! We are very excited to see how our Caterpillars and Butterflies grow and learn this year. Wishing a happy and safe holiday to all our little ones and their families. GRADE 000 Anine de Lange and Lauren Medcalf We are extremely proud of all the children in Grade 000, as they have settled in so well. Their happy school days included exploring the Pirate garden, playing with new friends and all whilst learning through play. This start of the year has been busy, yet filled with fun! The quarter included exciting shows that have tied into our learning themes, such as the ‘Be Smart - Be Sun-Smart’ and ‘My Five Senses Show’. We learnt how important it is to wear our sun hats during outside play and to apply sunblock to keep those harmful rays away. The ‘Five Senses Show’ allowed for smelling banana essence, hearing the tinkling of bells and seeing beautiful colours in a kaleidoscope with our eyes. PRE-PRIMARY FACULTY GRADES 0000 - R . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Riette Pieterse We are now well into 2022 and it is wonderful to walk through the Pre-Primary and Crackerjacks and observe the children confidently participating in activities and getting to know each other. They are settling into their new classes and are eagerly learning their class rules and routines. We enjoy greeting our parents in the morning and hope that you feel welcome and happy if you have just joined the Christopher Robin Pre-Primary Family. I look forward to continuing to work together with our “old” families and acquaint myself with those who have recently joined us. In February we celebrated the importance of friendships. Developing healthy friendships is an important life skill for children, as through play they learn to problem solve and resolve conflicts with their peers and learn to make new friends. Children with these skills are less likely to have social and emotional difficulties later in life. I asked a few children what they thought friendship means... Liyana: "It means that I love my friends and my mommy" Amani: "Love" Nicole: "It means when you go to Granny's house" Lily: "It means it makes you smile, happy and feel loved" Victoria: "When you make a friendship card for your friend" Elijah: "It means Valentine's Day" Thank you to all those who dressed up for Friendship Day and joined in the fun. We raised R1450.00 for CHOC (Childhood Cancer Foundation SA). Thank you to the parents who have taken the time to meet with their child’s class teacher for feedback sessions this quarter. This is a very important meeting in terms of your child’s progress and finding out more about their days at school. It is also a wonderful opportunity to have the teacher’s undivided attention and really focus on your child. It is a vital aspect of the home-school partnership and it greatly assists each child’s development and progress when we work as a team. On 11 March, Christopher Robin Pre-Primary celebrated its 42nd birthday. On this day in 1980, Lorraine Roth opened the doors of Christopher Robin Pre-Primary School to the residents of Cape Town’s Atlantic Seaboard. The College continues to grow as a result of the outstanding education and foundation our learners receive and we look forward to providing many more years of outstanding innovative education beginning in the early years. The Christopher Robin Pre- Primary team and I would like to Congratulate Lorraine Roth on Christopher Robin Pre-Primary's 42nd birthday. The children delighted in participating in the celebrations at school and our building was filled with fun and laughter. We wish all our children and parents a wonderful holiday break and hope you enjoy some relaxing time with your family. We look forward to welcoming all the little ones back to school on Wednesday, 06 April 2022.
