Quarter 2 Newsletter 2021
10 GRADE 00 Lauren Cowing and Dana de Barros The Grade 00s started off this busy and exciting quarter with a visit from The Petting Zoo. We had tremendous fun playing with, feeding, and petting many animals. The children had the opportunity to feed rabbits, pet a goat, watch guinea pigs scuttle around, and some children even wore a chicken as a hat! The smiles all around were heart-warming to see. On World Book Day our little ones dressed up in amazing creative and colourful book characters! World Book Day was a fantastic excuse to read to our heart’s content, and we spent the entire week engrossed in stories of many genres. The Roos and Kangas loved learning about different occupations. A highlight was our dress up day where the children had the opportunity to dress up as what they want to be when they grow up. Popular future careers were firefighters, doctors, princesses, vets, pilots, paleontologists, and many others. We also celebrated ‘International Children’s Right Day’ where everyone had the opportunity to bring a fluffy friend to school. The 00’s loved having their special fluffy guest join them for our picnic lunch. We have had a busy and exciting quarter, and we look forward to what next quarter will bring. Have a safe and restful holiday! GRADE R Tali Maltz and Anine de Lange Our second quarter was filled with excitement as our learners eagerly learned about our natural environment and the creatures which occupy it. We have been actively engaged in learning our letters and numbers and strengthening our fine motor skills this quarter, so we incorporated many special events into our literacy, numeracy and fine motor activities, from counting teddy bears, to strengthening our fine motor skills by cutting our paper bees, adding handwriting patterns and scribing messages to friends on folded paper airplanes. We celebrated Bee day with the children all abuzz, dressed in bright yellow and dark black stripes. We saw many magnificently painted faces and sparkly gold wings fluttering about. Our learners loved discovering why bees are so significant in our lives and how to conserve these incredible insects. The Aquarium’s Water Cycle Show, consolidated what our learners had learnt in class about the source of water, how it reaches our homes, and reinforced important vocabulary including ‘evaporation, condensation, precipitation and transpiration.’ Our learners were gifted with beautiful books following the show and we have enjoyed re-reading these in class. Our little ones practised tirelessly for their May play concert and we are so proud of their stellar performances. Our theme for the concert was transportation. Our little ballerinas were great sailors, whilst our singers loved performing songs about fire engines, cars and trains. Well done to all our bold and brave participants. We had a fantastic day creating a variety of paper airplanes. Our little ones designed and engineered pointy, wide, long, and intricate flying machines and delighted in decorating and testing them out, setting challenges such as ‘whose can fly highest or furthest’. Our Hamburger day and Teddy Bears’ picnic were a great hit in the Pre-Primary. Each class had the opportunity to place their orders at the counter, including garnish and side orders. The responses ranged from ‘this is so delicious’ to ‘I think this is what it is like when you live in heaven’. The Grade Rs were so excited to bring their teddies and soft toys to join in celebrating our Teddy Bear’s picnic. The atmosphere was completed by having melodious teddy bear songs playing as they enjoyed their delicious meal. Thank you to our chefs for these special treats. We wish all our families a safe and cosy holiday and look forward to welcoming you back for our third quarter.
