Quarter 2 Newsletter 2020
10 GRADE 00 The Roo’s and Kanga’s have had a whirlwind of learning and fun this quarter. It was a new experience for everybody, to see the faces of our friends on a screen. Online teaching became the norm and together we overcame all the challenges. The little ones quickly overcame their fear and uncertainties, and enjoyed the rich media filled time. The children have loved their lessons with their teachers and learned very interesting and useful concepts. They have created wonderful constructions, such as name rockets, making books, live baking lessons and very interesting science experiments. We had a busy week when we learned all about all the different occupations. We learned about the people who help us, pretending to be a vet for one day, as well as a doctor. They were able to share stories with their friends online, about their pets and how to take care of our pets. The Roo’s and Kanga’s had two weeks of learning all about Space. It was interesting to experience the launch of the rocket, SpaceX . They could see and learn about our Solar system, and they certainly will not forget the names of our planets. During these two weeks, we did very interesting experiments, like “Dancing Planets”, and “Magic Art”. During the lockdown time, we could see the wonderful Teacher Daniella, telling stories and doing speech and Drama as well as Teacher Brownen doing music lessons online. Chef Kerry showed us how to make apple crumble pie, and Teacher Tali inspired us to create the most wonderful constructions with DUPLO Blocks. Returning to school was a joyous day, seeing their friends in person since lockdown and enjoys playing in the spacious gardens. The Roo’s and Kanga’s have adapted with ease to the new daily routines and thrive on their busy school days. We are so proud of our little ones. Well done! Lauren Cowing and Suzette Watkins GRADE R Traditional learning in school has been replaced by remote, virtual learning, and our Grade R learners have adapted with grace and dignity to our new circumstances. Instead of playing in person during lockdown, our learners have enjoyed online hangouts and meets, instead of our regular classroom activities, we have been engaged in exciting new projects and much scientific investigation We learnt about the theme of water, and conducted a water cycle experiment. We learnt about the terms hydration and capillary action, conducting investigations with water, flowers and food colouring. Our learners went exploring their gardens and homes through an array of scavenger hunts and ‘I spy games’. We learnt letters and numbers and played language games. Parents and siblings generously gave of their time to read us stories. We could not have done this without you. ‘Show and Tell’ still remains a favourite activity, and Rabbits and Pooh Bears loved having their turn to speak and share news, whilst others listened politely, and with curiosity asked thoughtful questions. For our space theme, we created Alien pictures, the earth using paper mache, learnt what life is like in space, conducted air and space experiments and had stories read to us by astronauts, whilst we relaxed in the space pods that we created. Our little learners always displayed a phenomenal sense of curiosity, great patience, commitment to task completion, superb I.T. skills and immense kindness and resilience. Returning to school on Monday, 22 June was grately aniticipated and the Grade R learners adapted quickly to the new school routines. We cannot thank you enough for navigating this journey with us positively and lovingly. Tali Maltz, Anine De Lange
