Quarter 1 Newsletter 2020
Our quarter began with two exciting events, namely ‘The incredible Dog Show’, as well as our World Read Aloud Day. The classes were captivated by Lloyd Bristow’s’ amazingly clever and cute dogs, including Dash, et al, which could perform tricks, including finding hidden toys, driving cars, running through tunnels, dancing and spelling words. This show is always a highlight on our calendar. For our World Read Aloud Day, each child had the opportunity of selecting a beautiful story in the garden, read by a highly experienced educator. There were amazing illustrations, rhymes and even a song or two shared with an eager audience. Hereafter we welcomed very brave moms and dads who volunteered their very unique reading skills in class. Thank you to each parent that enriched us with delightful storytelling and supported this wonderful day. Christopher Robin Pre-Primary celebrated its 40th birthday in immense style. It is always such an honour to celebrate this momentous occasion with song and birthday treats, and we loved the special events which our enthusiastic staff arranged. We wish the school continued success with each new milestone that it celebrates. Wishing all our learners and parents a well deserved holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming you back to a fantastic Autumn Quarter. Tali Maltz, Anine De Lange Show'. We all thoroughly enjoyed learning about our five senses. We all played with a sensory tray which we could explore using our sense of sight, smell, taste, hearing and touching. The grade 000s are now more confident in knowing about their bodies and their senses. We have covered a number of exciting themes this quarter. “This is me – my body” was definitely one of our favourites. We ended the theme with a fun activity of making our own fruit kebabs. The children were treated to a rainbow of colours with the different fruit that was provided. It was lovely to see the children enjoy such a healthy snack. The Grade 000s have the opportunity to take part in cake sales this quarter and both the Tigger’s and Honey Bee’s class generously hosted their first cake sale on 13 March. Thank you so much to all the families that supplied delicious treats, which were thoroughly enjoyed by all. We look forward to learning, playing and discovering even more with all the Tigger’s and Honey Bee’s House children next quarter. Candice Kemp and Lauren Medcalf GRADE 00 We have had a happy first quarter together and the children have enjoyed lots of active outdoor gross motor activities, singing songs and theme discussions. There was much excitement surrounding “The Five Senses Show”. The children learnt about our senses through exploring a tray of different tactile activities, tastes, sounds, smells and visual activities. We celebrated Christopher Robin’s carnival themed 40th birthday, which was a fun filled day where we sang Happy Birthday, and the children took part in exciting activities! It has been a great quarter welcoming and getting to know the Grade 00s better. We wish our families a safe and refreshing holiday and look forward to welcoming the children back next quarter! Lauren Cowing and Suzette Watkins GRADE R Our first quarter of Grade R has been such an exciting time, filled with laughter, learning, courage and adventure. Our incredible Rabbits and Pooh Bears have settled beautifully. The Grade Rs have thoroughly enjoyed participating in their exciting new lessons, including Recorder and music with Teacher Bronwyn, Robotics with Teachers Justine and Tali and Drama, with the vibrant teacher Daniella Djan and her mysterious and enigmatic twin, Delilah. A highlight of the week is the exciting Six Bricks sessions, where sets of 6 multicoloured Duplo bricks are used in order to develop reasoning skills, memory, literacy, numeracy and listening skills, whilst we simultaneously learn to collaborate and problem solve in pairs and groups. In Robotics, our learners are taught the skills of coding, planning, designing structures and learning about technology in the real world. We have made wind turbines and tested their efficacy in the garden, as well as meeting Botley, the cute coding robot. We cannot wait for more Botley sessions and opportunities to innovate.
