and red apples on the red day. One of our moms also baked different coloured cupcakes for us to enjoy. The children really enjoyed the theme on transport. They delighted in singing “The Wheels On The Bus” and “My Little Yellow Car”. The Butterflies made large boxcars for land transport, the Ladybirds made yellow submarines for water transport and the Caterpillars sponge painted hot air balloons for air transport. When discussing the theme “Babies”, the little ones especially liked sharing and looking at their own as well as their friends baby photographs. This was so sweet to observe. On 2 September we celebrated Spring with a hat parade, the children delighted in going on the stage and showing off their creative and colourful crowns to the rest of the Pre Primary and Junior Preparatory learners. To celebrate the end of the winter quarter the Crackerjacks were treated to delicious penguin shaped waffles with lovely ice cream bellies. We wish you all a wonderful, safe holiday Ingrid Lubbe, Jamie Udeman and Lauren Medcalf GRADE 000 The Tiggers and Honey Bees have had a fun and busy winter Quarter. We loved learning all about the creatures and plants we find in our gardens. The life cycle of frogs and butterflies was an especially exciting theme. The children expanded their vocabulary and delighted in saying words such as metamorphosis, chrysalis and pupa. Such clever little Tiggers and Honey Bees! Our transport theme was such fun, as we learnt how to be safe on the road and about the different modes of transport we can use on land, water and in the air. We were treated to The Robbie Robot Show, which was lovely as it consolidated all that we have learnt. To celebrate the start of spring, we made bright and beautiful hats. We had great fun dancing and parading our hats in front of the Grade 1s and 2s. The Grade 000s were so proud and especially loved being on the stage. The Tiggers and Honey Bees excitedly welcomed their special people during Special Person’s Day! There was a buzz of excitement as they made their cheese and jam sandwiches with their special guest. It was such a precious moment to see them enjoy their PRE-PRIMARY FACULTY GRADES 0000 - R . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . From the Principal’s Office Chantel Lamb The learners have had a wonderful quarter, leading up to the spring holiday. We celebrated the start of spring with a Mad Hatters spring day celebration. Each learner decorated a spring hat and there were some colourful and wonderful creations. We once again had exciting shows in the Pre-Primary. Robbie the Robot taught the Grade 000’s the importance of road and pedestrian safety. Street signs, traffic lights and safety in a parking lot were taught through song, movement and role-play. While learning about life cycles, the Grade 00’s had an interactive show focussing on honey bees and their role in our planet. They also enjoyed an interactive show and danced and sang while they learnt about mammals. The Grade R’s learnt more about water during the Water Cycle Adventures Show. They followed Geo and his new friend, Thalie, as they set off to learn about the value of water and how to conserve it. Experi-Buddies once again visited and the children were engaged in interactive projects, exciting demonstrations and experiments. Lucky Lucy and Fallen Angels help and care for severely neglected and abused animals and do amazing work in our community. This quarter, we delighted in collecting tinned and packaged food, blankets and toys for these neglected animals. The Pre-Primary was alive with excitement for our annual SPCA dress up day. The children dressed up as their favourite animal and the classrooms and playgrounds were full of puppies, bunnies, butterflies, lions, tigers, crocodiles and many more animals! Special Person’s Day was once again a great deal of fun. The morning was full of song, play and special activities, however the most important part was spending time with our special person. This time together means a great deal to our visitors and especially to our little people. Thank you to the parents who attended the report feedback meetings this quarter. We are very proud of what each child has learnt, and how they have grown and progressed throughout the quarter. They are such precious little people and it is important that we ensure that their learning and time at school is a fun and meaningful experience for them. We trust that you will have a good little rest and some quality family time over the holiday. We are looking forward to welcoming the children back to school on Wednesday 2 October 2019. CRACKERJACKS This quarter began with a lovely surprise - a giant unicorn jumping castle! What a way to jump into the new the quarter. Our little ones delighted in playing in the ball pit while the more adventurous children climbed up the climbing wall to go down the very bouncy slide. They had so much fun! We have had a few new additions to our garden, and our specially designed jungle gym is by far the new playground favourite. While learning about colours around us, the children dressed in a different colour for each day of the week. They really enjoyed this and could not wait to explore the special tables that their teachers had prepared for them. They delighted in eating bananas on the yellow day guests were delighted to see footage of their little people explaining why their special people were so significant to them. They then worked together to decorate lovely plates upon which they could place their delicious decorated cupcakes. To celebrate the Rugby World Cup, a very special guest arrived to entertain us. We learnt about the Springbok Rugby team and the wonderful qualities which they aim to teach, including respect for others and healthy living. Bokkie, the Springbok Mascot amused our Grade R’s and presented them with their own Rugby balls. They participated in a fun quiz about the adventures of Bokkie and the Springbok team. It was hard to contain the excitement when Bokkie arrived later to pose for photographs with our learners. We wish you all an enjoyable, relaxing and safe holiday. Tali Maltz, Samantha Eagle and Anine De Lange sandwich under the trees, while they read a story together. On the last day of the Quarter, we ended on a high note as we all enjoyed a “ball day”. We played many games involving throwing, catching, kicking and even some dribbling. Have a safe and happy holiday. We look forward to welcoming you all back next quarter. Candice Kemp and Suzette Watkins GRADE 00 The Roos and Kangas have had a wonderful jam-packed winter quarter! Our theme on honey bees was so much fun and the children delighted in a very entertaining and interactive show. They learned a bee dance, about the importance of bees in our environment and what to do if they are stung. Some children were chosen to dress up, and we all tasted some honey…mmm. The children left the show buzzing with excitement! Our Spring Hat Parade was another highlight. The children used a variety of creative materials to create their own masterpieces. We paraded our very bright and beautiful hats around in front of the Grade Ones and Twos, and showed off some cool dance moves. Dressing up is always fun, but it is even better when there is a great cause to support. The normal talking and laughter was replaced with roaring, purring, barking as we dressed up as animals in support of the SPCA. It has been wonderful to observe how the Kangas and Roos have developed, and to see the little ones growing up and becoming more independent. We wish you a safe and happy holidays, and we cannot wait for our exciting fourth and final quarter of the year! Sarah de Graeff and Lauren Cowing GRADE R This quarter the Grade Rs have learnt about transport, occupations, water and fruits. We have explored scientific concepts such as the water cycle, and completed a variety of interesting experiments involving making natural cleaning solutions using fruit. The arrival of spring was celebrated with joy. Each class decorated their own spring hats using pom-poms, feathers, stickers, glitter and beautiful drawings. A spring hat parade, accompanied by fantastic music, allowed each learner to showcase their creativity. We were fortunate to host the informative Aquarium show. The main character, Thalia taught us where rain comes from and the impact of nature on the water cycle. This exciting show ended off in a very energetic demonstration. It involved saving droplets, by playing a parachute game using “water droplet” balls which we had to try “save” on the parachute. Special Person’s Day was a delightful event for the learners and special guests. We welcomed parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends to share in a morning of song, iMovies and creativity.
