2021 Magazine
178 | Edition No. 24 | 2021 “What counts in life is not the mere fact that we have lived. It is what difference we have made to the lives of others that will determine the significance of the life we lead.” We would like to, once again, thank our parents and children, for so generously contributing to- wards all our outreach projects this year! Thank you for your continued support and making a difference throughout our community! The outreach projects varied from new and well-loved donations, monitory contributions to dress-up day participations. Charity organisa- tions who benefited from the proceeds includ - ed ‘Reach for a Dream Foundation’ who raise funds in aid of children fighting a life-threat - ening illness, the ‘Casual Day’ project, who kindly and courageously supports people with disabilities and the ‘SPCA’ organisation, that promotes kindness, compassion and funds for animals in their care. Another on-going project in the Pre-Primary is the collection of Bread Tags for Wheelchairs. This fantastic charity collects the High Impact Polystyrene bread tags that are used to seal fresh bread and sells it back to recyclers. The money is then used to buy wheelchairs for the less fortunate. Thank you to all for the on-going support for this worthwhile project! Contributing and giving to those less fortunate than ourselves, adds value and meaning to our own lives. Former president, Nelson Mandela said: PRE-PRIMARY faculty lection with items for “snack packs’. For many children the little snack pack is a highlight of their day. Each snack pack contained juice, chips and a chocolate. Reach for a Dream informed us that from our donations they were able to make 228 packs. We started our quarter three journey with a trib- ute to Nelson Mandela. “Our hope is that the el- ementary reading of comics will lead to the joy of reading good books”. - Nelson Mandela. The Preparatory Faculty embarked on a mammoth task of collecting 670 books as part of our Man- dela Day celebrations. Our parents and learners exceeded all expectations and we collected an overwhelming 1500 books for West Riding Pri- mary. We then turned once again to our local commu- nity and collected Cup a Soup or 2 minute noo- dles for our local primary school as a quick warm snack for learners on their feeding scheme. Learners were able to have their snack during the school day or take a packet home for an af- ternoon tummy filler. We also dressed up as our favourite furry animals in support of the SPCA and collected R2160.00. We once again supported West Riding Primary School in their efforts to prepare for their Grade One learners in 2022. Often these little ones are not able to afford basic stationery packs for learn- ing and our aim is to collect as many packs with a pair of scissors, one eraser, one pencil and a box of pencil crayons so that each learner begins the year well prepared. As always a special thank you to our parents and learners for their generosity and support towards all our Outreach initiatives.
