Magazine 2020
178 | Edition No. 23 | 2020 We worked hard to visit, support, collaborate and volunteer (both virtually and in real life) to those in need, and made sure not to leave animals and the environment be- hind. This year we worked closely with Rotary Interactive Quarantine, a multi-continental platform host- ed by District 6840 in the United States of America. This platform has connected our club to other Inter- actors around the world and has re- ally assisted in putting the Parklands College Interact Club on the world map! Some of our Public Speakers and Debaters participated in an In- ternational Debate on this platform. Christine Greig - the 2019/2020 Interact Past President - is one of the founding members and has been appointed as Head of Marketing and Communications. Here she has the opportunity to work with fellow board members from Venezuela, Germany, Argentina, Mauritius, Is- rael and the USA. Interact has been extremely fortu- nate, in the sense that now, more than ever, there have been a bundle of different ways and opportunities to continue serving our community. Although challenging at times, this has not dampened the Interactors’ spirit as we saw many go out and serve the community hands-on and virtually with music concerts for the aged at Huis Zonnekus and Zoom Cups of Tea. Blouberg Rotary acknowledged the efforts of our collaborations, both regionally and internationally, and honoured us with an International Rotary Citation with Gold Distinc- tion. We also collected clothes for them during Lockdown. WARRIOR ONWHEELS We hosted a cake sale where we raised a whopping R2618. The proceeds went to the Warrior on Wheels foundation. This organisa- tion aims to uplift and empower children with disabilities by provid- ing special adventures tailored for them, thereby changing perceptions of ability and bridging gaps between able-bodied and differently-abled communities. All of this would not have been possible without the very dedicated committee members who have given their all to make each event a success SANDWICH SATURDAYS Every Saturday we have encour- aged the learners to make as many sandwiches as they can to donate to Ladles Of Love or Milnerton Can organisations. The sandwiches are delivered to different communities that are in need. We set a goal of 100 sandwiches per learner that helps out and many learners have embraced this initiative to make even more! #SpreadingJoy After the Rotary Interactive Quar- antine Conference, Christine initi- ated joining the Rostock Interact Club in Germany in collaborating with them on a very special project called #SpreadingJoy, which other Interactors from all around the world are also participating in. So on Wednesday, the 20th of May, letters that included inspirational messages were dropped off in neighbours’ letterboxes. Maybe more of us can embrace this act of kindness and spread some joy? HUIS ZONNEKUS ZOOM INITIATIVE Jemma Stearns in Gr 8 came up with the idea to donate time as a way to bring a smile to people’s faces over this period.
